Melbourne Museum explores life in Victoria, from our natural environment to our culture and history. Located on Wurundjeri Country in Carlton Gardens (Melbourne, Australia), opposite the World Heritage Listed Royal Exhibition Building, the award-winning Melbourne Museum houses a permanent collection in eight galleries, including one just for children. Melbourne Museum also features the Bunjilaka A

boriginal Cultural Centre and is a space for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to connect with Victoria’s Koorie (south eastern Aboriginal) people. Melbourne Museum is open daily 9am – 5pm. Closed Good Friday and Christmas Day. Entry to Melbourne Museum is Adult $15, Concession* and Child (3–16 years) free. Discounts available for combined tickets with IMAX. Additional charges may apply for temporary exhibitions.

Join a 2:30pm tour each day and explore Ancient Rome with one of our expert Museum Tour Guides, going beyond the objects to uncover the stories of empire, power, belief and daily life.

Get up close to over 180 extraordinary objects and experience the splendour and drama of Rome in an immersive, curator-led journey through this Melbourne-exclusive exhibition.

There are just a few places left for the first edition of Museums Victoria Courses: ROME.

Inspired by ROME: Empire, Power, People, this four-week adult learning program invites participants to explore the ambition, artistry and everyday life of Ancient Rome through expert talks, curator insights, guided exhibition experiences and object-focused learning in the heart of the CBD.

Across four Tuesday evening sessions, leading historians, archaeologists and classicists will unpack Roman power, daily life, religion, spectacle and the empire’s enduring legacy, drawing on more than 180 extraordinary objects from Museo Nazionale Romano and Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Firenze.
