Carnegie Toy Library Development through creative play is our mission. Ensuring access for all, reducing landfill and the burden of expense on families buying new toys.

The Carnegie Toy Library (formerly known as the Caulfield Community Toy Library) is a non-profit community group that was established in 1985. Our mission is "to provide an extensive range of age-appropriate quality toys to member borrowers". We are self funded through fundraising, council grants, volunteer services, membership fees, donations and levies. To become a member is as simple as complet

ing an application form and paying an annual fee. The Toy Library caters for children aged 6 months to 6 years, but has family games as well. There are approximately 2000 toys available in a range of categories. The types of toys available include Little Tikes (cars, kitchens, workbenches), construction toys (Lego and Duplo), costumes, games, videos, puzzles and baby toys. The Toy Library currently has approximately 300 members. By joining the Toy Library you will be able to meet other parents and have access to a wider range of play experiences for your children. You will be able to increase your children's interest / stimulation and offer greater learning opportunities and at the same time save money by borrowing rather than buying toys.

Four decades of toys being borrowed, loved, returned and borrowed all over again by generations of local families. 💛

If you've visited the toy library lately, you've probably noticed this one is always in demand... and for good reason!

PLAY IS A PRETTY BIG DEAL. 🧩

To grown-ups, it might look like blocks on the floor, a very elaborate pretend café or a puzzle being completed for the 47th time.
To children, it’s learning.

Through play, children experiment, problem-solve, practise language, build confidence, navigate friendships and make sense of the world around them.

And the best bit? They’re usually far too busy playing to realise how much they’re learning.

That’s one of the things we love most about our Toy Library. New toys mean new ways to explore, imagine and learn, without needing to buy something new every time. 💛

🎉 We have received a $6,000 Toy Library grant to grow our selection of high-quality educational toys and equipment.

Our grant allows us to contribute towards a rich home learning environment for children. 💜

Our Toy Library has been supported by the Victorian Government to renew our toy and equipment stock, improve membership offerings, enhance accessibility, and cover a range of one-off costs.

This is part of the Victorian Government's $1.9 million investment over 4 years to establish 8 new toy libraries and support existing toy libraries with grants of up to $10,000.

A huge thank you to Steve Dimopoulos MP and Department of Education, Victoria for your continued investment in early childhood learning.

It's National Science Week, and you don't need a lab coat to get involved.

Building, experimenting, investigating, problem-solving and asking "but why?" are all ways children explore science through play.

This week, we're loving:

Big school is a big milestone, but learning the foundations doesn't have to mean worksheets and screen time...

From threading, counting and letter recognition to problem-solving, creativity and STEM exploration, our School Skills toys helps children build confidence through play.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE, EVERYDAY

Toy libraries exist because children’s play is constantly changing. What captures their imagination this month might be completely different in six months.

Sharing toys means families can explore new interests, new skills and new stages of development without the pressure to keep buying more.

It’s a simple idea that makes a big difference - for families, for children and for the environment.

WITH THANKS TO THE FOREST HILL FOUNDATION

A huge thank you to the Forest Hill Foundation of Graduates in Early Childhood Studies for their generous grant, which has allowed us to add some wonderful new games, puzzles and learning resources to our collection. 💛

As a community-run, not-for-profit toy library, every grant has a direct impact on the children and families who walk through our doors, and we're incredibly grateful for this support.

We can't wait to see these new additions out on loan and enjoyed by our community.
