We are a fully volunteer brigade and some of the incidents types we attend include: structure fires, car fires, motor vehicle accidents (including rescue), industrial rescue, grass and scrub fires, hazardous materials and many more. As well as attending fires, Carrum Downs Fire Brigade is also involved in community awareness and safety, Fire Safe Kids, kindergarten visits and many fundraising acti

Carrum Downs Fire Brigade trains on Tuesday nights and all members are required to attend the fire station one Sunday a month to maintain the station and grounds and check all the equipment on the trucks. When joining as an operational firefighter you are required to successfully complete the general fire fighter course. From the time you join as a member it will be approximately 3-6 months before you complete your initial training and you are able to attend fires and incidents with the Brigade. We have 45 fire fighters and 10 Brigade Support Team members, who work together on a regular basis to make sure that our Brigade runs smoothly. Our brigade motto is ‘Striving to Exceed Community Expectations’ and we live by this motto by providing the highest level of service to our community. The Brigade Support Team who assists with fundraising and social activities who meet on the first Monday of the month, meetings start at 7.30pm. If you are interested in becoming either an Operational Fire fighter or a Brigade Supprt Team Member of our Brigade please contact Carrum Downs Fire Brigade via:

At 9:25am on a Thursday, most people are at work.

🔥But fires still start.
💥Cars still crash.
🌲Cats get stuck up trees (not often, thankfully).

That's why we're looking for people who are available during the day to join Carrum Downs Fire Brigade.

Not everyone wears firefighting gear, and that's okay!
We also welcome non-operational members who assist with fundraising, community engagement, administration, and supporting brigade activities throughout the year.
These roles are just as important and are a fantastic way to contribute to your community.

Being a CFA volunteer isn't just about fighting fires. It's about being part of a team that looks after its community and each other.

If you work from home, do shift work, run a local business, are semi-retired, or have flexibility during the day, we'd love to talk to you! We are holding an information session Thursday 18th June, 7:30pm at 15 Wedge Road, Carrum Downs for people interested in operational and non-operational roles.

Because when an emergency happens, your neighbours are counting on someone to answer the call. 🚒

Could that someone be you?👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

You can't smell smoke when you're asleep 😴💤
All smoke alarms in your home should be interconnected - this means that no matter where a fire starts - all alarms will sound.

Carrum Downs & Kangaroo Ground CFA representing CFA for National Volunteer Week at CFA's Bangholme training campus! Jayde Cotic from Channel 10 was covering the weather while our members kept warm with some training on the gas pad props.

These props help prepare members for external firefighting around vehicle fires, structure fire exposures, pipeworks and large gas containers. All controlled by a central training tower to provide oversight, safety, and varying the scenarios.

When using your fireplace in winter, it’s important to be fire safe 🔥
✅Always use a fire screen in front of an open fire.
✅Keep items that can burn, such as clothes horses, at least 1m away.
✅Extinguish open fires before leaving home or going to sleep.
✅Always supervise children near open fires.
✅Ensure ashes are cold before discarding.
✅Only burn dry, clean wood.

It’s a great opportunity to say thank you to not only our brigade members who give so much of their time to provide you with the best possible service we can, but to all who volunteer in their local organizations including but not limited to State Emergency Service, Life Saving Victoria.
If you would like to volunteer with CFA, check out their website for more information.
