Spotting Greater Gliders in the Wombat Forest last night with Ellen Sandell MP and Wombat Forestcare was an incredible experience!
We found quite a few of these beautiful creatures. While they were too high up to easily photograph, seeing them in their natural habitat highlights exactly what is at stake.
This spotlighting took place in an area marked pink on the map—a zone which is currently State Forest. With so many greater gliders calling this area home, we need to upgrade these zones to Regional Parks to ensure their critical habitat isn't destroyed by future exploitation.
Meanwhile, the areas marked green are officially set to become National Parks on October 8. While this is a massive win, the Victorian Government has allocated zero budget for its management, in addition to cutting funding for Parks Victoria. A park on paper won't protect our wildlife without proper funding for conservation.
The Greens will keep fighting for full funding and total protection for the entire Wombat Forest. 💚
