πŸš’ Community Reminder from Cawarral Rural Fire Brigade πŸš’

Over the past few weeks, our brigade has attended a number of callouts, including the incident shown in these photos. While many burns start with good intentions, conditions can change quickly and fires can easily escape control.

As we move into the cooler months, please remember the conditions of your Permit to Light Fire and ensure you are burning safely:

πŸ”₯ Keep burn piles to a manageable size (anything 2m x 2m x 2m or above requires a permit before lighting)
πŸ”₯ Check weather conditions before lighting β€” avoid windy or unstable days
πŸ”₯ Have adequate water and firefighting resources available at all times
πŸ”₯ Ensure firebreaks are in place and never leave a fire unattended
πŸ”₯ Fully extinguish fires before leaving the area

Now is also the perfect time to start preparing your property for the upcoming fire season:

βœ… Slash or mow long grass
βœ… Remove leaf litter, dead vegetation and other fuel hazards around homes and sheds
βœ… Trim low tree branches and overhanging vegetation
βœ… Clean gutters and roofs of leaves and debris
βœ… Move flammable materials such as wood piles and fuel away from structures
βœ… Ensure your property access is suitable for emergency vehicles β€” gates should be accessible and driveways clear with enough width and height for fire trucks
βœ… Make sure your property number is clearly visible at the mailbox or entrance so emergency services can locate you quickly
βœ… Check pumps, hoses and water supplies are operational
βœ… Discuss and update your family bushfire survival plan

⚠️ If you see a fire that appears unattended, unsafe, or out of control, call 000 immediately. When speaking with the our friendly firecom staff, try to provide as much information as possible, including:
πŸ“ Address or nearest road/intersection
πŸ”₯ Approximate size of fire.
🌬️ Nearby threats (homes, sheds, bushland etc.)
πŸšͺ Best property access points or gate information.

Providing clear information helps our friendly Firecom team ensure that crews can respond quickly and effectively with the right resources!

Preparing early helps protect not only your property, but also your neighbours and our firefighters.

Stay safe and thank you for supporting your local volunteers. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸš’
