Standing with our NSW Emergency Service colleagues.

Our sincere condolences go out to Marine Rescue NSW and especially to the first responders and families of the volunteers who tragically lost their lives responding to a distress call from a vessel off South Ballina, along with those they were seeking to assist.

Advice - THEVENARD - Avoid Smoke

WARNING AREA

Ceduna on the West Coast of Eyre Peninsula

ACTION

Smoke from THEVENARD is in the Ceduna township area(s).

Smoke can affect your health. You should stay informed and be aware of the health impacts of smoke on yourself and others.

Symptoms of exposure includes shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing, burning eyes, running nose, chest tightness, chest pain and dizziness or light-headedness.

If you or anyone in your care are having difficulty breathing, seek medical attention from your local GP. If your symptoms become severe, call 000.

More information will be provided by the CFS when it is available.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

Stay indoors as much as possible.
Close windows, doors, and air vents (this may only assist with reduced exposure for hours or a few days, as outside air will eventually enter the home).
Use appropriate air conditioner settings in the home and vehicles to prevent outside air coming in.
Spend time in air-conditioned venues, like cinemas, shopping centres and libraries.
Reduce indoor sources of air pollution, such as smoking, cooking with gas, burning candles or vacuum cleaning.
Avoid vigorous outdoor activities, especially if you have asthma or other chronic lung or heart conditions.
People with existing heart or lung conditions, people over 65 years of age, children 14 years and younger (especially those with asthma), pregnant and breastfeeding people and people with diabetes are more sensitive to the effects of breathing in smoke and should follow the treatment plan advised by their doctor.

Tuesday nights training was working at heights and positioning of tarps to prevent water entering.

During storm events like the recent rain event, we at times have to access a roof and prevent water from entering into a structure. This could be due to high winds removing tiles or tin, age related issues like silicone seals being degraded or gutters overflowing into the roof space.

The scenario was part of the roof had been removed, crews established a safe work space by setting up a roof height safety system, once crews were able to access the roof safely one of our large tarps was placed across the open section of roof and secured in place.

If your interested in joining the SES visit our website at https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/home/volunteer/

Or drop a message to our page.

Yesterday, we had crews respond to three requests for assistance, all related to the rain. Even though the rain has stopped with totals above 100mm we ask people to avoid playing, walking or driving through flood waters. Roads and paths may be damaged and you wonโ€™t be see the damage until itโ€™s too late.

Monitor the BOM website as the rain may return over the coming days. (Yes we know they have had some issues)

If you require SES Emergency assistance please call 132500

If itโ€™s life threatening call 000.

Remember, if itโ€™s flooded forget it, find a different way.
