💙❄️ BIG FREEZE 5.0 WEEK IS HERE! ❄️💙

This Friday, our Ceres community will come together once again for one of our favourite events on the school calendar – Big Freeze 5.0!

This year's event feels even more significant following the recent passing of Neale Daniher, whose courage, resilience and determination inspired millions of Australians. Neale's incredible fight and powerful message have inspired our little school community to get behind FightMND year after year. Together, our students, staff and families have raised more than $8,000 over the past five years, and we're proud to continue supporting a cause that has touched so many Australians.

To mark our fifth year of supporting Fight MND, our Big Freeze 5.0 will look a little different this year. If previous years are anything to go by, this is shaping up to be our biggest, coldest and most memorable Big Freeze yet!
Throughout the week, we'll be sharing fundraising updates, prize opportunities and perhaps a few nervous-looking teachers as Friday gets closer! 😅

🚦 Road Safety Learning at Ceres Primary School 🚦

Road safety has been a big focus at Ceres Primary School, with Thursday's RACV Safety Squad incursion providing our students with a fantastic opportunity to learn important skills for staying safe on and around our roads.

Through engaging and interactive activities, students explored pedestrian safety, making safe decisions near traffic, and how they can play an active role in keeping themselves and others safe in the community. The sessions were both informative and enjoyable, helping students build knowledge and confidence in real-life situations.

The incursion was a wonderful follow-up to last Friday's Walk Safely to School Day, where students, families and staff gathered at Frank Mann Reserve before walking to school together. It was fantastic to see our community come together to promote healthy, active travel while reinforcing the importance of road safety along the way.

A huge thank you to all the families who joined us for Walk Safely to School Day. Together, we are helping our students develop lifelong habits that keep them safe, active and connected to their community. Also to Kelly Club for providing our healthy breakfast snacks as we arrived at school last Friday.

🔔Education Week🔔

Education Week will take place in Week 5, with the theme “Showcase Your School.”

Throughout the week, we have a number of exciting whole-school events planned. These include an Open Morning on Monday 18th May, buddy activities on Thursday, and a Parent Information Session with Mrs Goward on Wednesday 20th May at 2:30pm focusing on Phonics and Reading at Home. If you've ever wondered what 'Systematic Synthetic Phonics' is and how we teach it at Ceres, come along to this session where we will talk you through our approach and how you can best help your child when reading at home.

In the classroom, learning will also centre on celebrating what we love about our school and what makes it such a special place to learn.

⚠️📢 Communications for parents and carers re: Industrial Action (Tuesday, March 24th) 📢⚠️

The Australian Education Union has called on its members to take strike action on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.

Based upon the information provided to me, the vast majority of our teaching staff will be taking part in the strike action. As a consequence, students in all year levels are not required to attend.

If this will cause you difficulties, in particular, if you are a critical services worker (emergency services, fire, police, hospitals, ambulance etc.), please get in touch as soon as possible.
