🔥 Our latest blog is now live and it's a fascinating one!

The history of Bellbird Fire Brigade is inseparable from the coal mining history of the Hunter Valley. From the devastating Bellbird Mine disaster of 1923, which claimed the lives of 21 miners and highlighted the urgent need for proper firefighting equipment in the area, to a fire station literally shifted off its foundations by a violent windstorm in 1994, Bellbird's story is one of resilience, community spirit, and determination.

It's a history marked by decades of setbacks, the Great Depression, post-war shortages, newsprint rationing, but also ingenuity, including a fire station built from the recycled materials of a demolished Alexandria shed. We love a good origin story, and Bellbird has one of the best.

SMOKE ALARM ACTION DAY - 1st June

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm! Be smart and take part in Smoke Alarm Action Day, and test your smoke alarm works! A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

TRAINING

Today 254 crews went and took advantage of Truckshow X which was in the local area. Crews were able to investigate and discuss emerging technologies such as EV, Hydrogen and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil rigid vehicles.
The ability to liaise with suppliers about emergency procedures such as shut offs and fire suppression systems in the event of fire or MVA was extremely beneficial as these vehicles become more common.
