🔥 A hazard reduction burn is taking place at 2 Lookout Road New, Lambton Heights (Newcastle City Council LGA) TODAY, Monday 7th September 2026, between the times of 0900-1600.

Charlestown 255 will be in attendance along with surrounding FRNSW stations to assist with the burn and ensure it is completed safely 🚒

If you live nearby or become affected by the smoke, please consider doing the following:
⛑️ Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering buildings.
⛑️ Outdoor items such as outdoor furniture, trampolines, playground equipment etc should be either taken inside or covered. Where this is not practical, items should be hosed down regularly to prevent ember damage.
⛑️ Retract plastic or synthetic pool covers to prevent ember damage
⛑️ Remove washing from clothes lines.
⛑️ Ensure any outdoor pets have a sheltered area.
⛑️ If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.
⛑️ If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on

🔥 HAZARD REDUCTION BURNS 🔥

As we head into the warmer months, you may notice hazard reduction burns taking place across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas.

So, what’s the point of all that smoke and fire?

Hazard reduction burns are carefully planned to reduce the amount of vegetation and fuel on the ground before a bush fire occurs.

Hazard reduction burns can help to:

🔥 Reduce excess fuel on the ground
🚒 Create safer conditions for firefighters
🏠 Help protect homes and properties
🌿 Protect the environment and reduce the impact of future bush fires
💨 Reduce the potential spread and intensity of bush fires

What can you do?

• Stay informed by checking the NSW RFS or Hazards Near Me app
• Keep doors and windows closed if smoke is present
• Drive to the conditions and take extra care around smoke

Stay safe,
Charlestown Fire Station FRNSW

BYE-BYE WINTER… 🥶

HELLO SPRING (cleaning)

Clearing clutter is about more than tidying. Keep hallways, doors and windows clear so everyone can get out quickly in a fire.

Take a few minutes to check your escape routes while you’re cleaning.

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm! 🚨 Be smart and take part in Smoke Alarm Action Day, and test your smoke alarm works! A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000) 🔥
