Scouts Night with SES 🚨🧡

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Scouts along for an action-packed SES night! 👏

The Scouts got a hands-on introduction to what we do at SES, with plenty of practical activities and a few opportunities to get their hands on the tools.

🚒 Pump station – learning about our flood response equipment
🛠️ Tools – getting up close with some of the gear we use on jobs
🌊 Flood response – learning what happens when the rain really starts coming down
🪢 Knots & ropes – putting their knot-tying skills to the test
👷 SES life – learning about volunteering, emergency response and how we help our community

There was plenty of curiosity, lots of questions and, of course, a fair bit of fun along the way!

A big thank you to the Scouts for joining us and to our volunteers who gave up their time to make the night happen. 🧡

Today, our volunteers were called to assist with the rescue of a young boy from the beach below the Black Rock cliffs. He was safely extracted and handed over to Ambulance Victoria.

Incidents like this are an important reminder to respect the terrain. If you’re exploring the coast, please stick to established paths and safe access points, keep children close and avoid climbing on or around cliff faces.

A huge congratulations to our newest cohort of SES volunteers who have completed their Crew Member Supervised Training this week! 👏🧡

It’s a fantastic milestone and the culmination of plenty of learning, practical skills, teamwork and hard work. We’re excited to see you continue your journey with the unit and put those skills into action supporting our community. 💪

From responding to storms to saving lives at the donor center! 🩸

Our volunteers don't just serve the community during storms and floods. Many also roll up their sleeves to donate blood and plasma, helping save lives long after the emergency is over.

Last week, our members completed the Lifeblood Emergency Services Blood Drive with an incredible 23 blood and plasma donations. We're so proud of every volunteer who took part.

Right now, Lifeblood's blood supplies are critically low due to winter illnesses causing many regular donors to cancel their appointments.

One donation can save up to three lives. If you're able, please consider booking a blood or plasma donation. You could be the reason someone gets a second chance. 🩸❤️

🚨 Heavy rain is forecast for Sunday. Now is the time to prepare. 🌧️

A few simple steps now can help protect your home and keep you safe:

✅ Clean your gutters and downpipes if it's safe to do so to help prevent water entering your home.
✅ Clear leaves from drains around your property.
✅ Reconsider parking under trees. Prolonged rain can soften the ground, increasing the risk of trees and large branches falling.
✅ Secure loose outdoor items before the weather arrives.

Most importantly, do not drive through flood water.

A little preparation today can make a big difference tomorrow.

If you need VICSES assistance for storm or flood damage, call 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, always call 000.

Stay safe and stay prepared.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Community Safe Plate Day at Bunnings Mentone! 🚗🔩

It was a fantastic morning, with approximately 75 vehicles fitted with anti-theft number plate screws, and additional screw kits handed out to members of the community.

Thanks to the incredible teamwork of volunteers from VIC SES Moorabbin Unit and the Southern Metro Regional unit, alongside Victoria Police, the event ran seamlessly. Our fitting bays kept traffic moving efficiently, with short wait times throughout the morning.

Events like these are a simple but effective way to help reduce number plate theft and make our community a little safer.

🚗 Community Safe Plate Day is Back! 🔩

Number plate theft is a growing issue—but protecting your vehicle is quick, easy and FREE.

Join Victoria Police and VIC SES Moorabbin Unit, with anti-theft screws supplied by City of Kingston , for Community Safe Plate Day.

📅 Sunday 2 August
⏰ 11:00am – 12:30pm
📍 Bunnings Mentone: 23–27 Nepean Highway, Mentone

Our volunteers and Victoria Police will fit anti-theft screws to your number plates to help prevent theft and make it harder for criminals to use stolen plates.

📍 We'll be located near the nursery entrance—just follow the event signage to the designated fitting bays.

Help protect your vehicle and support a safer community. We look forward to seeing you there!
