The team from Cherry Gardens brigade has joined fellow Sturt group brigades to support the Youth Vigil taking place at the Blackwood War Memorial overnight tonight. A yearly tradition, cadets from CFS, St Johns, and local Scouts stand vigil until the dawn service on ANZAC day to show respect to our fallen service members.

We are proud of all cadets who take part, and it is a privilege for our brigades to support this next generation of volunteers.

Every member of our team is valuable, but today we recognise the achievements of the women in our teams on International Women's Day.

From officers to drivers, chainsaw and breathing apparatus operators, to communications and operational support members; we work together as a team across all roles to ensure the safety of our community. This includes across brigades and services, as a large tree across Main Road, Chandlers Hill demonstrated tonight.

Thankyou to the women in our community for you input and achievements in society, and to the teams, families, and friends who uplift us.

FLOOD WATCH FOR PARTS OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA 🌧

Issued at 12:31 pm Australian Central Daylight Time on Thursday 26 February 2026. Flood watch number: 8

FLOODING CONTINUING IN PARTS OF NORTH-EASTERN AND CENTRAL CATCHMENTS

FURTHER FLOODING EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS OVER THE MID NORTH, NORTH WEST PASTORAL AND SOUTH EAST DISTRICTS AND MOUNT LOFTY RANGES

A slow moving low pressure system over southern Northern Territory extending a trough into the northeast of Southern Australia is forecast to continue producing widespread moderate to heavy rainfall across the Flood Watch area over the next few days, with locally intense falls possible.

The highest rainfall totals are forecast over the North East Pastoral district during Thursday, however rainfall is forecast to extend southwards from Friday and over the weekend. Accumulated rainfall totals will be significant.

River and creek level rises, localised flooding, and overland inundation are occurring across parts of the Flood Watch area and are likely to become more extensive, affecting larger parts of the Flood Watch area. Many bitumen and dirt outback roads are currently impacted by flooding, resulting in the isolation of some communities. The majority of major roads in the region are closed. Check road conditions before travelling. The east-west railway line is closed to the north-west of Port Augusta.

Catchments likely to be affected include:
Limestone and Millicent Coast Rivers and Creeks
Broughton River
Yorke Peninsula
Flinders Ranges Rivers and Creeks
North West Lake Torrens
Eastern Eyre Peninsula
Lower Eyre Peninsula
Kangaroo Island
Warburton River
Cooper Creek
Lake Eyre

West Coast Rivers and Creeks
Eastern Great Victoria Desert
Angas and Bremer Rivers
Danggali Rivers and Creeks

Is the weather forecast to be hot, but no Total Fire Ban has been issued for your area?

Fire weather forecasts take many things into account when predicting what the upcoming district fire danger level may be. This includes predicted temperature, humidity, and winds; recent rainfall, and the dryness of fuels (such as grass and scrub). So, while a day may be hot, or a part of a spell of hot weather, one of these other factors may not be influencing the fire danger prediction as much as other days which are declared a Total Fire Ban.

Regardless of the fire danger rating forecast, all members of the community should be aware of their actions during hot or windy weather conditions. While a day may not be a declared Total Fire Ban in your district, remember that conditions do change and that fire weather can become elevated during the day regardless of the forecast. Always use caution with activities that may have a risk of igniting a fire, like using angle grinders or slashing grass, and consider additional fire protection measures or postponing these activities. Information on what you can and cant do within the Fire Danger Season and on a Total Fire Ban day can be found at https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/restrictions/what-can-i-do-what-cant-i-do/

As always, look out for your community in the heat. Check in on neighbours, look out for wildlife, and be community-conscious when undertaking activities with any risk of fire ignition. If you see flames or smoke call Triple Zero (000).
