HISTORY BEHIND THE EVENT:- The development of the RSL's original dust ridden side access to the main street was a eyesaw to the place for so many years, a real disgraceful track used by everyone who didn't care about the RSL grounds.
Gord'o despised this shortcut and put in for a grant to pur a fence up with gates to the stop vehicles throwing up red dust into the RSL building & A/C system
As a free camper before coming on board, Gordon's idea of a beer garden came into focus and I began watering ( being an ex turf curator before the Army) to establish a lawn.
Gordo's vision stayed with me and with his insight we cungered up the idea of naming the back area as " LUSCOMBE AIRFIELD Beer garden after the Aust airfield in South Vietnam.
Gordon's fence is up, the grass has grown, the new verandah is built, the smoker's area is now the extended to be the covered Stage area, an now is the final piece that I saw later on and invisaged was a practical food & drinks area for outdoor functions, The Can Bar !
Yeah, I call it Terry's Tuckshop but it's more than that, it your RSL's projection into another facility for families to enjoy in a safe enclosed area where all can run around in complete safety. It's not about the grog or bar profit it's about somewhere families can relax and enjoy a Sat or Sunday outside entertainment !
This is about 2 blokes ideas a few years ago, no tickets or ownership by either of us, just a concept of where the RSL should fit into our community.
So, Gordon's idea, a tranzitant old greenkeeper in the free area, a concept and a very proactive committee are making things happen.
Most locals know of Mic Egan and the absolute quality in workmanship he will bring this concept into a functional RSL asset for all to enjoy.
It's people like Gordo, and all your past and present committee volunteers, the silent " yeah I'll do that job" people that keeps this RSL alive !
THAT YOU ALL for BELIEVING,,,,
kind regards from Terry and the RSL Team
