Whether you've been following us for years, joined us recently, shared one of our posts, stopped for a chat at a community event, or waved to a crew out on a job, we'd like to thank you for getting behind your local SES volunteers.

One of the things we enjoy most about our little corner of Facebook is being able to share what our crews are up to across our patch, provide preparedness and safety information, and give the community a glimpse into the work that happens behind the scenes to keep our people skilled, up-to-date and ready to go when you need us.

We're proud to live in, work alongside, and serve the Port Phillip and Southbank community and appreciate the support you continue to show our members.

Last night's weather certainly kept the Port Phillip crew busy, with decent rainfalls and localised flooding causing issues across our patch. ☔🌊

Firstly, a sincere thank you to the overwhelming majority of the public. 🙏 Whether it was moving vehicles, taking an alternative route, or following directions from our volunteers, your patience and understanding made a real difference and helped us keep people safe.

For the small minority who became frustrated with our crew - we understand it was a cold, wet and inconvenient evening. But if a road is closed, or we're asking you to change your plans, there's a very good reason for it. Our crews are there to keep everyone safe and protect people, businesses, and property from further damage.

We were particularly disappointed to see several drivers still attempting to drive through floodwater at the York Street underpass near South Melbourne Market. 😣 Despite repeated warnings and clear water level signage, one driver found out the hard way why we constantly remind people to forget it, if it's flooded! Turning around might add a few minutes to your trip. Ignoring the warnings could leave you stranded, needing a rescue, or facing a very expensive repair bill.

Please continue to take care and look out for one another! 🧡

Port Phillip and Southbank, please keep an eye on weather today! ☔

With abnormally high tides currently affecting us, gusty winds and up to 30mm of rain expected across parts of Melbourne, there is the potential for localised flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Some streets in our patch have already experienced flooding, and it won’t take much additional rain for conditions to deteriorate.

If you’re out and about, drive to the road and weather conditions, allow extra stopping distance, and be prepared for water across roads.

Most importantly, we remind you again: please do not drive through floodwater. It can be deeper, faster-flowing, and more dangerous than it appears, and it only takes a small amount of water to affect your vehicle.

Stay informed, take care on the roads, and keep an eye on official weather warnings and the app as the weather system moves through.

Our long-time member (19 years!) and Deputy Controller for Operations, Robert MacMillan was one of the VICSES members invited to Government House last week by Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardener, and the Emergency Services Foundation.

The event recognised the often-unseen role families play in supporting frontline Emergency Services personnel. 🧡

Rob is a recipient of the National Medal and the 15-Year Service Medal, contributing countless hours to training, operational response, mentoring fellow members, and helping keep the unit running smoothly. His leadership, dedication, and willingness to support others have made a lasting impact on our members, our unit, and the community we serve.

He was joined by his wife, Ruth, who deserves a medal herself. Whether it’s late-night callouts, training nights, deployments, or those “quick trips” to the unit that somehow take a little longer, the support of family is an essential part of volunteering.

We are deeply grateful for the sacrifices they make and the encouragement they provide. 🙏

🚑 Ambulance Victoria Familiarisation 🚑

It was great to get together with our friends from Ambulance Victoria for a joint training session.

Training together is a fantastic way to strengthen teamwork, build strong working relationships, and improve the way we respond alongside each other during real-world incidents 🤝🚨 These sessions provide valuable opportunities to share knowledge, practise scenarios, and learn from each other’s experience and expertise.

A big thank you to everyone involved for their professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment to continuous learning 👏🔥

Looking forward to more opportunities to work and train together in the future to help keep our communities safe 💪

🚨 Incident update 🚨

Port Phillip SES members are currently on scene at a truck rollover on Montague Street outside South Wharf DFO.

Our team is assisting by providing scene lighting for crane crews working to safely right the truck and clear the area.

Motorists should expect delays while recovery operations continue - please follow directions from emergency services.
