🌟 Celebrating Our Commitment to the Redlands Community 🌟

From our humble beginnings in 2011, the Redland Bay SES has transformed significantly. Starting in a two-bay shed at Weiman Creek—mosquito-infested and lacking basic amenities—we've journeyed far. Under the leadership of our first Group Leader, Gerard Williams, we faced tough challenges, including limited resources and maneuvering vehicles in tight spaces.

With the generous support of our neighbours at the RSL, we established a makeshift Emergency Operations Centre and a storage space for our first truck. The community came together, and with a second-hand shipping container, we proudly painted it SES orange during a dedicated working bee.

After a decade of relentless effort, we officially opened our new headquarters at 44 Jardine Drive on May 29, 2021. This milestone not only marks our growth but also highlights our unwavering dedication to the Redlands community.

Our volunteers have consistently stepped up during local disasters and state emergencies, responding swiftly to bushfires, floods, and storms. Whether it's providing vital support to affected communities, our members are always ready to lend a hand.

Recently, our team has assisted communities across Queensland, deploying resources and expertise wherever needed. This spirit of service embodies our commitment to being a reliable support system for those in need, reinforcing the bonds within our community and beyond.

As we continue to expand our membership, we’re proud to collaborate with our sister group on Coochie-Mudlo Island, ensuring that we provide vital services to all corners of our community.

Thank you to all our volunteers for your commitment and resilience. Together, we make a difference! 💪❤️

🧡 Did you spot the Story Bridge glowing orange? 🧡
It was lit up orange to celebrate 50 years of the Queensland State Emergency Service - five decades of volunteers stepping up when their communities need them most.

A few of our Redland City SES Unit members were honoured to be selected for a special bridge climb to mark the occasion. For many of us, it’s a landmark we cross every day, but seeing it from the top - lit in SES orange - was something truly special.

Here’s to 50 years of volunteering, dedication, teamwork, and showing up for Queenslanders through storms, floods, searches, and everything in between.

Celebrating 50 Years of SES and the History of North Stradbroke Island SES Group!

This weekend, the picturesque shores of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) were filled with celebration as the island’s State Emergency Service (SES) unit marked 50 years of dedicated service to Queensland communities. The event brought together SES members from across the Redland City Unit to honour the remarkable contributions of the North Stradbroke Island (NSI) team and to celebrate their unwavering commitment to disaster preparedness and emergency response.

Although the Queensland SES has been serving communities for five decades, the North Stradbroke Island SES Group has been a vital part of the island’s resilience since the official opening of the North Stradbroke Island Disaster Resilience Community Education and Resource Centre on 13 April 2013. This centre, a collaborative initiative funded by the Redland City Council, the Queensland Government, and the Australian Government, was officially opened by the Major. Since its establishment, the centre has played a crucial role in disaster preparedness and emergency response, ensuring the safety and well-being of the island’s residents and visitors.

The weekend’s celebrations not only highlighted the significant achievements of the SES but also showcased the natural beauty of North Stradbroke Island. Attendees were treated to breathtaking views of the island’s pristine beaches and lush landscapes, providing a perfect backdrop for an event dedicated to honouring those who work tirelessly to protect this unique and cherished community.

The presence of SES members from across the Redland City Unit added to the sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. Their participation reflected the broader SES network’s commitment to supporting communities across Queensland. Together, they celebrated the legacy of the Queensland SES and reaffirmed their dedication to continuing their vital work in the years to come.

As the North Stradbroke Island SES Group celebrates its history and contributions, the community extends its heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers who have selflessly served. Their dedication and resilience are a testament to the strength and spirit of the Queensland SES.
