Happy Census Day! 📝🇦🇺

So we’ve answered all the important questions — age, where we were born, what we do, where we live and how we get around.

Although we have to agree with Victoria State Emergency Service…there are a few questions we reckon should’ve made the list! 😂

🪣 When did you last clean your gutters?
🎒 When did you last check your emergency kit?

We’re not saying the Census needs to become an SES preparedness survey… but we’re also not saying it shouldn’t. 👀😂

Our Census is now complete here at SES Cobram Unit — although we’re still wondering why gutter cleaning didn’t make the questionnaire! 😂

Happy Census Day from all of us! 🧡🩵

Happy Census Day! We ideally wanted more questions included on the last time people checked their emergency kit and cleaned their gutters... but ours is now complete. ☺️

🧡 COMMUNITY SUPPORTER SPOTLIGHT 🧡

A clean, safe and professional Unit doesn't happen by chance—it takes pride, teamwork and support from our community.

This week, we'd like to recognise Burson Auto Parts - Cobram for their generous donation of a commercial floor cleaning machine to the SES Cobram Unit.

Our Unit is used for training, operational response, meetings and community engagement activities throughout the year. The commercial floor cleaner helps us maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our volunteers and visitors, while also protecting one of our Unit's most valuable assets.
It's a practical contribution that continues to make a difference every time our members walk through the doors.

Thank you to the team at Burson Auto Parts for your generosity and for supporting the professionalism and pride our volunteers have in their Unit.

🧡 COMMUNITY SUPPORTER SPOTLIGHT 🧡

Road rescue is one of the most technical and challenging skills our volunteers undertake, and realistic training is essential to ensuring we're ready when our community needs us.

This week, we are proud to recognise Wilko's Recycling Pty Ltd for their outstanding ongoing support of the SES Cobram Unit

Wilko's Recycling regularly donates vehicles for our Road Crash Rescue training, delivering them to our Unit before training and collecting them again afterwards. Their generosity provides our volunteers with valuable hands-on experience using the same equipment and techniques required during real emergency incidents.

Without businesses like Wilko's Recycling, opportunities for realistic rescue training would be far more difficult to achieve. Their continued support helps our volunteers build confidence, develop critical rescue skills and remain operationally ready to assist our community.

Thank you to the team at Wilko's Recycling for your generosity and your continued commitment to supporting local volunteers.

🚙🏕️🌧️ A little reminder from your friendly volunteers at SES Cobram Unit...

After the rain we've had earlier this week, some of those river tracks are looking a little more inviting than they really are. They might say, "Come on in!" ...but they're secretly plotting against your tyres. 😅

With plenty of people heading to the river, there's one thing we'd like to clear up.

We're here to rescue people, not recover vehicles.

If you're stranded, can't get out safely, or there's a genuine emergency, we'll absolutely come and help you.

But if everyone is safe and it's just the vehicle, caravan or camper that's decided it's found its forever parking spot, we won't be bringing the tow straps or helping pack up camp. Vehicle recovery is best left to a recovery/towing service, or your roadside assistance provider (where applicable).

Our volunteers need to stay available for emergencies where people are at risk, so keeping vehicle recoveries to the appropriate services helps ensure we're ready when the next urgent call comes in.

If you need assistance from us, call 132 500. If the situation is life-threatening, always call 000 (Triple Zero).

So before heading off the beaten track:

✅ Check the conditions
✅ Don't let yesterday's sunshine fool you after this week's rain
✅ And maybe don't trust that patch of ground that's saying, "Go on... I dare you." 😉

Have a fantastic weekend enjoying our beautiful part of the world, and remember—we're always here for the people, even if your car has other plans. 🧡🧡

🧡 COMMUNITY SUPPORTER SPOTLIGHT 🧡

This week, we are proud to recognise Ambience Bakery/Café for their ongoing support of the SES Cobram Unit and our volunteers.

When volunteers are responding to emergencies, attending training, supporting community events or heading out on an early morning call-out, the support of local businesses can make a real difference.

Ambience Bakery/Café has been a valued supporter of our Unit, regularly assisting with catering, hot coffees and breakfast for volunteers, often when we need it most. Whether it's helping fuel our members before a busy day ahead or providing refreshments during Unit activities, their support is always appreciated.

There is nothing quite like a hot coffee and breakfast after an early morning pager activation, or when volunteers are gathering at the Unit before heading out to support the community. These simple gestures help keep our members energised, focused and ready to respond.

It is often the behind-the-scenes contributions that make the biggest difference. By supporting our volunteers, Ambience Bakery is helping support the broader community and contributing to the strong community spirit that makes Cobram such a great place to live.

Thank you to the team at Ambience Bakery/Café for your generosity, community spirit and ongoing support of the SES Cobram Unit and our volunteers.

🧡 Supporting volunteers. Strengthening communities.

⛈️ Heads up, Cobram!

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for our area.

Rather than sharing the warning details here (they can change quickly), we'll point you to the official warning:

Now's a great time to:

🏡 Secure loose outdoor items

🚗 Park your vehicle under cover if you can

📱 Keep an eye on the weather and any new warnings issued by the Bureau of Meteorology

🤝 Check in with family, friends and neighbours who may need a hand preparing.

If you need assistance for storm or flood damage, call SES on 132 500. If the situation is life-threatening, call 000.

Stay safe,

🚨 SES Cobram Unit

🟢 EDIT: Well... that was short-lived! 😅

The Bureau of Meteorology has now cancelled the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for our area.

Thanks to everyone who stayed weather aware (and to those who gave the outdoor furniture a pep talk just in case! 😉).

As always, we'll share important updates when needed. Stay safe, Cobram! 🧡

Yesterday was National Social Media Day… which we absolutely had marked in our calendars right next to “hydration reminder” and “check the radios are charged” 😌😅

At SES Cobram Unit, social media is where we share the important stuff — safety messages, training updates, and the occasional “yes, we were actually that busy in the storm” proof of life. It’s also how we stay connected with our community and help keep everyone informed when it matters most.

We’re a bit late to the celebration, but social media has never let that stop us before, so why start now? Consider this our officially unofficial, slightly-delayed-but-still-enthusiastic acknowledgement of the day.

And because no post is complete without a photo — attached is Paddy Platypus making a very serious operational assessment alongside a large stuffed kangaroo and joey at last year’s Katamatite Primary School Fête. As you do.

Thanks for following along, supporting volunteers, and making what we do easier to share (even when we’re not quite on time).

Stay safe, Cobram 🧡

Last night’s training at Cobram Unit was a great opportunity to recognise some of our members and catch up as a team (with pizza making a very solid appearance 🍕).

Members who took part in the recent RRCA (Road Rescue Capability Assessment) were presented with a small thank-you gift — a set of multi-function scissors — in appreciation of their time and effort. Big thanks to Paul, Jack, Emma, Jai and Elsinore for getting involved. Sonny, who couldn’t make it on the night, we’ll make sure yours gets to you.

We also took a moment to recognise Helen, who received her pin acknowledging her contribution to the Victoria State Emergency Service response during the 2022/2023 floods. It was especially nice to have her children there to share in the moment and see that recognition first-hand.

The rest of the evening was spent ticking off a bit of admin, sorting a few tech issues, and getting through any outstanding online training modules, alongside a good chat over shared refreshments.

Thanks to everyone who came along and continues to support the Cobram Unit and our community 🧡
