We will be officially opening the new Pickleball courts at Steyne Park on Sat 22nd August at 13:00hrs. All welcome.

Simon Bolt, a Pickleball England coach, will be on hand to show us the basics. All equipment provided. So if you've ever thought of trying the sport, now is your chance.

(We encourage walking or cycling to the park, as the car park can get quite busy on a Saturday).

The surface refurb and painting of the old basketball court is done in the park and I have to say we think it looks great! The contractors have done a great job. It looks so much neater.
We're waiting on basketball hoops and backboards, and will be getting pickleball equipment, storage and working out a way to hire out the nets, paddles and balls.
Will post with further updates when we have them, but so far so good.

EXCITING NEWS!!

Work is starting this week on regenerating the basketball court in Steyne Park. As per the recent consultation (results available on our website) the court will include a newly lined and painted basketball court, along with futsal and 2 x pickleball courts.

It does mean that the court will be out of use from today whilst the works take place, but hopefully it will be worth it.

Thank you for your patience.

STEYNE PARK: PLAY PARK CLOSURE
Hello all, we're sorry to say that we are going to have to close the small play park from tomorrow for a few days.
The soft pour surface is starting to break up and it's getting worse in this heat. As we have a long term plan to revitalise this play park, for now we plan to carry out a quick patch up and make safe.
We know it's inconvenient but safety comes first!

Very exciting news for Steyne Park.
At the meeting of the Parish Council last night it was agreed to go ahead with resurfacing of the old basketball courts to include newly painted lines for Basketball, Futsal and Pickleball, and an upgrade to the basketball hoops.
See below for how the court originally looked and a (very) rough plan of how the new one will be laid out.
It is the first small step in the Parish Council's plans to regenerate Steyne Park, and follows on from the consultation earlier in the year.
Listening to feedback the Council decided to reduce the number of Pickleball Courts from 3 to just 2, to allay fears over noise. Also, for now there won't be a fence around the court or an entry system to allow the community to still use the facility whenever they like. We'll work out a way for people to hire equipment for pickleball sessions (further details to follow).
If we find that there are too many clashes with people wanting to use the court for differing sports at the same time then we may then have to revisit the idea for fencing at a later date.
But for now, we're hoping to have this in place and available to use within the next few months.
Further updates to follow.

Very pleased to be able to take a cheque for £661.50 to Wessex Cancer Support Centre from our recent Cakes4Cancer event.
Thank you so much once again to the businesses for donating cakes and the parishioners of Bembridge for raising such a great amount. Our lengthsmen Steve donated a huge bucket of loose change he had been saving, which came to a whopping £150, so a massive thank you to him as well.

Just another reminder to get your entry forms in for the annual Bembridge in Bloom competition. There are 9 categories ranging from a junior recycled planter to best hanging basket/container to large front garden, so something for everyone. Closing date is 19th June. There are some great prizes to be won, but more importantly you get to share your wonderful gardens. Pleased to have a new judge this year - Mike F**t, previously Deputy CEO and Director of Parks for London's Royal Parks. He is very keen on encouraging community engagement with the environment and gardening. Let's show him what Bembridge has to offer!
Form attached, or they are also available from the Parish Council Office, website, the Bembridge Horticultural Society website and Bembridge Library.

Also another polite reminder to last year's winners to return your cups to the Parish Council office. Many thanks.
