France crossed an important milestone in the energy transition. As of 1 July 2026, it has officially begun enforcing its landmark solar parking law.

Parking lots with more than 400 spaces must now cover at least 50% of their area with solar canopies. Smaller eligible parking lots (roughly 80–400 spaces) must comply by July 2028.

It's a brilliantly simple idea: instead of clearing farmland or natural ecosystems, generate clean electricity from land that's already paved.

If around half of France's parking lots were fitted with solar canopies, they could provide an estimated 6.75–11.25 GW of installed solar capacity.

➡️ Generates clean electricity from existing infrastructure
➡️ Keeps vehicles cooler while reducing urban heat
➡️ Protects cars from sun, hail and heavy rain
➡️ Improves EV efficiency by reducing AC demand
➡️ Makes better use of land resources
➡️ Creates distributed power plants where electricity is consumed

This is exactly the kind of practical, scalable policy that accelerates the energy transition. Sometimes the smartest infrastructure isn't new infrastructure, it's making better use of what we've already built.

France has just turned parking lots into power plants. Who's next?

Australians are voting with their wallets. market share surged from 8.4% in January to 35.8% in June, more than quadrupling in just six months. Iran war, rising fuel prices, falling EV prices & supportive policy are making the economics impossible to ignore. Cost always wins.

Solar is the largest energy infrastructure expansion in human history.

Global solar capacity grew from 227 GW in 2015 to nearly 2,900 GW in 2025 — an increase of 2,673 GW in just a decade. That's almost a 13× increase in 10 years.

Even after accounting for lower capacity factors, the amount of usable electricity added dwarfs virtually every other energy technology. Watt for watt, there simply is no comparison.

The only technology that comes remotely close is wind, which added around 870 GW over the same period and is itself the second-fastest growing energy source on the planet.

In 2025 alone, the world added 647 GW of solar — more than the entire global solar fleet that existed in 2018.

My 2026 projection is +841 GW, taking global solar capacity to around 3.7 TW.

Better economics. Faster deployment. Manufacturing scale.

Scale is winning. ☀️📈

Happy 100th birthday Sir David 🥳🎉

🎂 100 today! Sir David Attenborough, the legendary broadcaster, has long been a voice for the world’s oceans.

In his 2025 film ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’ he says: “I now understand the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea".

“If we save the sea, we save our world… I’m sure that nothing is more important”.

To save the sea, we must protect it. The best way to protect the ocean is through strong marine sanctuaries.

We wish Sir David the happiest of birthdays 💙

Australia stalled at ~8% renewables for over a decade, stuck in climate wars & policy gridlock. Then costs collapsed. Solar surged. Wind followed. Now pushing ~40% and accelerating fast. Delay didn’t stop the transition… it compressed it. Delay doesn’t stop change, it compresses it.

Liberals are being racist because of One Nation voters not because there is a migrant problem!!!

“Anytime the Coalition needs a win, it turns to demonising immigration and migrants, blaming them for the system it created as part of the political project to restrict wage growth, suppress workers’ rights and increase consumers for big business for short-term political gain” writes Amy Remeikis, Chief Political Analyst at The Australia Institute.

“It’s a cynical ploy rooted in racism – and it works to capture attention, but exists on nothing but vibes and fumes.”
