Spring has sprung at Coimadai CFA!

What a beautiful blue-sky Sunday to get the appliances out the front and ready for the season ahead. Sunday is our maintenance day — checking, cleaning, preparing and making sure our trucks and equipment are ready to go when our community needs us. A great team effort as we head into another busy fire season. Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine!

🔥 SPRING 2026 BUSHFIRE OUTLOOK 🚒

AFAC has released the Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring 2026, with hot and dry conditions expected across much of Victoria.

⚠️ Areas facing an increased bushfire risk include:
🔥 East Gippsland
🔥 The far south-west
🔥 The Surf Coast
🔥 Areas west of Geelong through to the southern Wombat Forest

With the warmer months approaching, now is the time to get prepared.

A huge congratulations to our Second Lieutenant, Mel Hodges, on being appointed to a senior CFA Pentland Group leadership role. Mel is now one of just two women to hold a senior Group position, and we couldn’t be prouder. A fantastic achievement and a well-deserved recognition of her leadership, dedication and commitment to the CFA. Congratulations, Mel!

Over the last couple of days our Brigade had been busy with burning couple of small paddocks of tussock.

Last Monday night we went out and did some live fire training with our newer firefighters on the small industrial training POD. Was great to see everyone working as a team.

On Thursday morning approximately 8:30 am Coimadai Fire Brigade was called to a House Fire in Long Forest.
When arrived on scene members were asked to provide water to the Bacchus marsh appliances and to set up a hydrant to refill and transport water while we had a member wearing BA (Breathing Apparatus) to help extinguish the fire.

Despite the cold, wet winter weather, Coimadai CFA was called into action today to respond to a grass fire.

While many people associate fire danger with hot summer days, today’s incident is a timely reminder that fires can occur at any time of the year. Grass, vegetation and other fuels can still ignite under the right conditions, regardless of the season.

Thanks to the quick response of our volunteers, the fire was brought under control and prevented from spreading further.

As we head into the colder months, it’s important not to become complacent. Whether you’re using machinery, burning off, or enjoying a campfire, always take care and be mindful of fire safety.

A big thank you to all responding crews for their dedication and commitment to keeping our community safe, no matter the weather.
