Colac Area Health Colac Area Health meets the needs of more than 30,000 people in the Corangamite, Colac Otway, and Surrounds.

Colac Area Health's acute care services consists of a range of inpatient services including medical, surgical, haemodialysis and maternity. We provide an extensive range of surgical procedures to the local community and surrounding districts, including general, obstetric, endoscopic, orthopaedic, urological, gynaecological, ophthalmic and dental procedures. Colac Area Health also provides communit

y services to help address alcohol and other drug problems, homelessness, transitional housing, women’s health, family support, youth development and children’s resources. Specialist counselling is available for family violence, financial difficulties, child and youth issues. Our allied health services include dental, rehabilitation, nutrition, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology health promotion activities. The community nursing team provides home-based health care to support people to stay healthy in the community. Corangamarah is an accredited public sector high level residential aged care service. It is a modern, safe and friendly environment with registered and enrolled nurses and lifestyle workers to aid participation in a wide range of inspiring activities.

Protect your infant from RSV this winter.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of infant hospitalisation in Australia.

Victoria is offering a seasonal infant RSV immunisation program from mid-March to 30 September 2026.

Infants from birth to 8 months of age may be eligible if:

• their mother did not receive RSV vaccination during pregnancy
• their mother was vaccinated less than two weeks before birth
• they have medical conditions that increase the risk of severe RSV, regardless of maternal vaccination status.

Infants from 8 months up to 24 months of age may be eligible:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander infants and young children
• Infants and young children with specific conditions associated with increased risk of severe RSV disease

Infant immunisation is available through participating public and private birthing hospitals, community immunisation clinics, general practices, and Aboriginal Health Services.

If you are not sure whether you are eligible for free RSV immunisation, speak with your immunisation provider.

A recent report found that over 7.2 million Australians are currently living with incontinence, with that number expected to reach 8.6 million by 2032. And it's not just an older person's issue — 71% of those affected are under 65.

We're painting the Urgent Care entrance canopy this week as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a welcoming and well-presented facility for our community!

📅 Monday 15th June – Friday 19th June 2026 | 7:00am – 4:00pm daily

During these hours, access to the Urgent Care entrance may be temporarily redirected via the Acute Hospital entrance. Clear signage will be in place to guide visitors, patients, and staff to the nearest available entry point throughout the day.

Don’t risk the flu. Get vaccinated today.

Flu season is here, and it can be serious. Choose to protect yourself and your loved ones with an annual flu vaccine.

The vaccine is free for eligible groups:
• Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
• Adults aged 65 years and older
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and older
• Pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
• Individuals with certain medical conditions that increase the risk of severe flu.

🔮 Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 🔮

Elder abuse can happen to anyone — and it often happens behind closed doors.

🛑 What is elder abuse?
It can be financial, emotional, psychological, physical, sexual or social — and can range from subtle to severe.
Most often, it’s carried out by someone the older person knows, such as adult children, family members or friends.

📊 In Australia, 1 in 6 people aged 65+ have experienced at least one form of elder abuse in the past year. That’s an estimated 160,000 older Victorians each year.

💔 Two-thirds of victims seeking help are women.
🏡 Insecure housing and homelessness increase the risk of abuse.
🌏 People from CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQI+, and regional communities are at higher risk.

As our population ages, elder abuse is expected to rise — unless we speak up and take action.

💜 On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, let’s shine a light on the issue, break the silence, and support the rights of older people to live free from harm.

National Immunisation Program – Update RSV
From May 15 people aged 75 and over and can receive free RSV vaccination. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible from the age of 60.

Those eligible can receive the free RSV vaccine through their preferred local health service including GPs, immunisation clinics, community and Aboriginal health services and participating pharmacies.

RSV is a common respiratory virus that can lead to hospitalisation, intensive care and death. Aged care residents are particularly vulnerable due to shared living arrangements and frequent contact with staff and visitors.

Free influenza vaccines are available under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for people most at risk of developing severe illness and complications.

The addition of the RSV vaccine on the NIP for older adults complements the free NIP influenza and COVID-19 vaccine programs.
