Potentially heavy rainfall has been predicted for our region over the coming week. Now is the time to prepare your home for heavy rain to reduce the chance of flooding.

Dugouts are especially unique and now is a great time to go for a walk and ensure all drainage paths are free of weeds and debris, including gutters.

Please be safe and don’t go anywhere or do anything beyond your physical capabilities.

If sandbags are required to protect your property you can call the Coober Pedy Mine Rescue/SES unit mobile on 0427 725 446 and we will arrange a time to meet at the shed.

The Bureau of Meteorology has updated a Severe Weather Warning ⚠️ for DAMAGING WINDS 💨
For people in West Coast, Flinders, Mid North, North West Pastoral and parts of Mount Lofty Ranges, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, North East Pastoral and Murraylands districts.

Issued at 4:53 am Friday, 25 July 2025.

A deep low pressure system in the Bight will bring windy conditions across the state today.

Weather Situation: A deepening low pressure system in the Bight extends a strong cold front about the west of the state. Strong and gusty north to northeasterly winds are expected ahead of the front as it tracks across the state during the day, with vigorous west to southwesterly winds developing in its wake.

DAMAGING NORTH TO NORTHEASTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are expected about the Flinders and Mount Lofty Ranges early morning, extending to parts of the North East Pastoral by late morning. Damaging winds are expected to shift westerly and contract to the northern Flinders Ranges by late afternoon, and finally below warning thresholds by early Saturday.

DAMAGING WEST TO SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are expected in the west of the state behind the front from mid morning, extending to central parts in the afternoon. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds inland early evening, and throughout by late evening.

Locations which may be affected include Ceduna, Clare, Marla, Coober Pedy, Roxby Downs and Leigh Creek.

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;

* Secure or put away loose items around your
property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

Understanding Flood Risks: A Comparative Look

This image overlays a flood map of and surrounding areas onto a map of Adelaide to help visualise flood impacts in the Northeastern part of South Australia.

A large volume of water is currently flowing into the state from the Diamantina River and Eyre Creek and making its way to the Warburton River. Water flowing into South Australia from Cooper Creek is moving towards Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre. This water is estimated to be five times greater than the volume of water during the River Murray flood event in 2022–2023.

By comparing these areas side by side, we can better understand the scale of flooding in remote regions and the impact to the impacted communities.

Keep up to date with the latest road closures, weather warnings, and safety advice. A little preparation can go a long way in staying safe this long weekend.

Congratulations to the newest rescue operators!!

All 13 members have completed the Rescue Operations Course hosted in Ceduna over this weekend.

From here, these valuable volunteers will move into specialist roles such as Road Crash Rescue, Vertical Rescue, Mine Rescue, Urban Search and Rescue as well as many pathways that the SASES has to offer.

Again congratulations to you all on a massive effort and an outstanding achievement!
