History Room ground floor of the community hall is open this morning. If you're popping around to your favourite community library, come and have a chat with Christine and Catherine in the room next door. We will be there from 9 am until about 11.30.

Saturday morning 29 August 9 am to midday, ground floor Community Hall, some of our Coochie Heritage team will be opening the History Room.

Drop in for a cuppa and a chat about our community's history and what makes the Emerald Fringe and the island's flora and physical environment so special. Books also on sale.

It was a full house today for Linda Brennan's Edible Flowers on The Menu presentation at Coochie's Recreation Club. Beautiful flowers, fascinating information, seedlings, jam and chutney, finishing off with afternoon tea. Thank you to the attendees, Linda, the volunteers and the Rec Club.

Who on Coochie knows anything about Louisa Toogood? Not too many I suggest.

A serendipidous meeting with Ruth Lee who visited Coochie several decades ago led to her beautiful story being uploaded to the Heritage Society website, thanks to Angela of Site Content. Please have a read. It'll bring a smile to your dial.

Ruth Lee and her family stayed on Coochiemudlo Island in the 1960s. Time on the island turned out to be a rescue of sorts for the family — ‘ping-pong Poms’. Ruth’s story is both charming and historically insightful.

Is this a Blue Heron? These are not good photos as the bird (beside the Community Hall) was a fair distance away and started walking away when it picked up on my interest. I've seen this bird before in the same area, but I don't think it is commonly seen around on Coochie.

I was visiting the History Room where Jo Comerford and Jan MacIntyre have been working on an important project cataloguing the Heritage collection and meeting minutes going back...way back

Sunday evening saw a group of walkers carrying a torch for coochie before convening at Gindabara for a delicious range of soups, singing and beautiful music led by Jose Garcia. John Pearn made it on the 5.30 pm ferry to join the walkers and share stories fireside. A big thanks go to Jose and Lani for leading the walk, Kate Barker and Catherine Bishop for their care with the walkers, those who brought beautiful food and Carolyn Brammer for sharing her beautiful property, once Pullen Hall.

With the wind in our hair, a happy gathering assembled just before midday to witness Coochie's fabled Flinders re-enactment near Norfolk Beach. Thanks to our seasoned thespians ably led by Steve Shelley and Kate Barker we watched a debonair Matthew Flinders with his trusty crew, not forgetting Trim the cat, make a splashing arrival. Fortunately for Flinders he arrived just in time to be greeted by his great love Ann Chapelle and her team, beautifully dressed as they led visitors from the market around to Norfolk Beach.

With hats flying, scarves blowing and cameras/phones clicking, people jostled politely for photo opportunities.

Thank you to the actors and well wishers who join in to make this fun albeit quirky event enjoyable for all ages.

Thanks too to Coochie Progress and their helpers who jumped in to put the Heritage gazebo up in near gale force winds this morning.
