The Cook and District Historical Society holds records from the area shown below in the map. Yes, it is the area of Cook Shire Council, which was once three different administrative regions. The Cooktown Municipal Town Council, the Hann Divisonal Board (Maytown) and the Daintree Divisional Board. This photo was given to us by visitor earlier this year. He took the snap in Charlotte Street in 1961. Anybody know any names? Trevor Meldrum?

Today in Australia, Victory in the Pacific Day is commerated annually on August 15. It marks Japan's acceptance of the Allied surrender terms in 1945, which efficitively ended WW2.
For Australia, the days holds deep significance as the conclusion of nearly 6 years of global war. Over 39,000 Australians lost their lived during this conflice, including 17,000 fighting against Japan with thousands more dying in captivity.
The photo below is of a Vultee Venegeance dive bomber of the No 12 Squadron, nicked named Dianne, flying along the coast over Cooktown.
