Disaster Rescue Challenge 2026

Over the weekend, our members joined 5 other units around the region in the northern zones Disaster Rescue Challenge.

The Disaster Rescue Challenge (DRC) is a hands-on, scenario-based event where SES teams test their disaster response skills across areas including rescue, land search, navigation, rescue, storm operations, and first aid.

This exercise provides our teams with valuable experience, allowing them to apply their skills and training in high-pressure simulations that replicate the challenges of responding during someone’s time of need.

Thank you to all that participated over the weekend!

SANDBAGS AVAILABLE ☔️

Good evening from us volunteers at Cooranbong SES!

It’s been a slow but steady crawl as the rain has begun creeping back down the coast.

Here's what we're expecting over the next 48 hours:

- Rainfall is forecast to increase across the Mid North Coast, Upper Hunter and adjacent districts from early Thursday evening.
- The severe weather is expected to spread south through the Mid North Coast, and Hunter on Friday.
- Rainfall is expected to ease late Friday afternoon/ evening but severe thunderstorms may also bring the risk of damaging winds and large hail until Saturday.

With this in mind, we have prepared sandbags for the community if needed to protect your property.

Our teams will be ready to assess the conditions as necessary, and are here to help if needed. Remember to direct all requests for non life threatening assistance to 132 500, and not to the SES social media pages.

Please log what you take via the main QR code near the sandbags.

Thank you!

Good afternoon wonderful community!

We would like to remind everyone going into the next few days to stay safe and cautious with the anticipated increase in rainfall.

We’re asking the community to do their bit and not take any unnecessary risks.

Download the Hazards Near Me app and set up a watch zone with your local area so you are alerted with the latest advice.

Remember, never drive through floodwaters 🚫
Always stay aware, and drive to the conditions ✔️

Thank you,
Cooranbong SES

🧡National Volunteers Week 🧡

This week is National Volunteers week where we celebrate and thank all of those volunteers who take time from their lives to make sure the communities are looked after and supported through times of need.

To celebrate NSW SES and other SES agencies around Australia, Wednesday 20th May is WOW Day.

To recognise the significant efforts that our teams put in day in day out for our communities, we invite you, our amazing community to wear orange tomorrow.

We are also opening this post up as a Virtual Wall where you, our community can share some amazing, kind words to our valuable volunteers here at Cooranbong.

We will be at Morisset Bunnings tomorrow in our Orange uniforms, so come along and say Hey to our amazing team of Volunteers.

NSW SES Cooranbong Unit sends our thoughts to our friends at NSW SES Wyong Unit, after yesterday’s fire at the unit.

The Central Coast is fortunate to have such a strong and resilient crew, and we look forward to seeing them on the other side of this.

The support emerging online is an incredible testament to the assistance they provide the community. We offer Wyong our full assistance during this time.
