History
The Corrimal War Memorial Swimming Pool was originally constructed in 1971 and officially opened on the 24th February 1972 by the Lord Mayor of Wollongong Alderman J. The pool was dedicated to the memory of those that paid the supreme sacrifice during World War 2. Since that date swimming has played a major part in the fitness and recreation of residents in the Northern suburbs of Illawarr

a. The facilities have been enlarged and enhanced a number of times over the years and are now a modern complex based principally around the heated outdoor 50 metre pool. Full canteen facilities operate and there is ample car parking facilities. Swim training originally began in 1973 wherein about 40 swimmers that previously trained at the Towradgi Rock Pool started Club training at Corrimal and this humble beginning was the start of the Corrimal Swim Club. By 1980 the Club had grown in number to about 100 members and in their first year held their first successful Swim event - the Country Swimming Championships. Heating of the pool was a welcome addition and is greatly appreciated by today’s swimmers. Councillor Vicky King, Deputy Lord Mayor, officiated over the dedication at the time on the 13th September 1997. The pool is now covered at night during winter to reduce heat loss and the water temperature is a warm 22 degrees or so.

1982 witnessed the construction of the Corrimal Swim Clubhouse and this was built with donations of money and services from the general community and fundraising from the club. Free “Learn to Swim” classes were started on Saturday mornings in 1984 and in 1989 our current Swim Coach; Tracey Waters began her successful coaching career from Corrimal

Congratulations to all, with so much racing we couldn’t manage a team photo but we are so excited to have watched all the new pb’ along with the Country and State qualifying times achieved. Clearly the hard work being put in at training is paying off.
