“Tharawal” or “Dharawal” as it is referred to in historical records refers to the original peoples of the southern and south western Sydney area from the south side of Botany Bay, around Port Hacking to the north of the Shoalhaven River (Nowra) and extending inland west to Campbelltown and Camden. Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council’s key function and business is as a Land Council. Its role inc

ludes the provision of assistance to improve and foster the social, economic, physical and mental wellbeing of its members and all Aboriginal people within the Tharawal LALC boundaries. Tharawal LALC offers a range of services, projects and facilities for utilisation by members of the broader community. These projects and services are targeted to assist Tharawal LALC members and the Aboriginal community. We take much pleasure in inviting readers of this page to take the time to experience the cultural heritage that the Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council has to offer. We acknowledge and pay our respect's to all Aboriginal Elders, past and present, and to the families of this region. They are the traditional custodians and cultural knowledge holders of this land.

Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council acknowledges with deep sadness the passing of Maxine Wonson.

We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends and all who are mourning her loss. During this time of sorry business, we stand respectfully alongside her loved ones as they gather to honour her life and reflect on the legacy she leaves within community.

Join us for a 2-day Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid workshop — a safe and culturally grounded space to yarn, learn, and build practical skills to support our mob through tough times.
