SES Phillip Island Unit

SES Phillip Island Unit The Phillip Island SES is an emergency service made up entirely of volunteers on call 24/7 respondin Everyone can find their niche in an SES Unit.

We meet every Wednesday night for training at 19:00 at LHQ located 127 Settlement Rd Cowes, next to CFA. There are roles for active people who like emergency operations and there are equally important roles for people who want to support the Unit with equipment maintenance, fund raising and education. As an SES volunteer, you don’t have to be available all day every day. If you work full-time, vol

unteering with the SES can be an after hours interest. If you’re at home with school-aged children, the best times for you to volunteer may be during school hours when the kids are off your hands. You might like looking after the equipment – cleaning the vehicles or keeping the chainsaws ready for action. Those with the gift of the gab might try radio communications or media relations. Some have a flare with children and can help in school and kindergarten visits. Others just love to get on the truck and get going. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, make friends and contribute to your local community. You'll get accredited training, confidence and a new lease on life.

Happy Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day)!

Today is the national day of thanks for our incredible SES volunteers who provide vital emergency support to our communities 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Whether you’ve added a touch of orange to your outfit, planned an orange-themed event, donated to your local VICSES unit, or even joined up as a volunteer, we’d love to hear how you’re celebrating this special day. Tag us using

Today marks the start of National Road Safety Week. This year's theme is 'Pledge to Drive so Others Survive', giving us all an opportunity to make sure we're looking out for each other on the roads.

To start the week, it is important to remember the 1,300 lives lost on Australian roads each year. Over 40,000 people are also injured each year on our roads.

All road users have a small but important role to play in helping to reduce lives lost and injuries.

Emergency services have a vital role in responding to accidents, saving lives and making sure road users are driving safely. Shout out to the following Victorian emergency services that respond to incidents and proactively keep us safe:

CFA (Country Fire Authority)
Fire Rescue Victoria
Victoria State Emergency Service
Ambulance Victoria
Victoria Police
Echuca Moama Search & Rescue Squad
Shepparton Search and Rescue Squad

Today we celebrate the incredible mums, grandmothers, carers and mother figures who support our families and communities every single day.

From all of us at SES Phillip Island unit, thank you for everything you do — whether it’s caring for your family, supporting others, volunteering, or simply being there when people need you most.

We hope you have a safe, relaxing and well-deserved Mother’s Day 💛🧡

Not your average call-out for the crew today 🚨🌳🐝

We were tasked with a fallen tree blocking the road — pretty standard for us. But this one came with a twist… it was home to a very active colony of bees.

Safety comes first, for both our volunteers and the environment, so this job turned into a coordinated effort rather than a quick clear, thanks to the help of a local beekeeper who helped relocate the hive.

A good reminder that no two jobs are ever the same, and sometimes nature has its own plans.

Big thanks to the team for adapting on the fly and handling a tricky situation professionally 👏

Vale OM Bartley, we thank you for your service, may you rest in peace

Today, members from the Morwell Unit, alongside SES members from across Victoria, came together to honour and celebrate the life of Operations Manager David Bartley.

David was a highly respected member of our SES family, whose leadership, dedication and support left a lasting impact across Gippsland and beyond. His commitment to helping others and strengthening our communities will not be forgotten.

It was a privilege to stand together today, reflecting on his service and the legacy he leaves behind in the people he mentored, the lives he helped, and the organisation he gave so much to.

Our thoughts remain with David’s family, friends, and all who had the honour of knowing and working with him.

Vale David Bartley
