🌕 Preparing for Saka Dawa Duchen 🌕

Tomorrow we celebrate Saka Dawa Duchen, one of the most sacred days in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar.

Saka Dawa commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha, making it a powerful day for practice, reflection, and cultivating virtue.

According to Tibetan tradition, the effects of both positive and negative actions are greatly multiplied on this day. It is therefore a wonderful opportunity to focus on kindness, generosity, compassion, and spiritual practice.

Some ways you may wish to observe Saka Dawa include:

🪷 Reciting Shakyamuni Buddha's mantra:
**Om Muni Muni Maha Munaye Soha**
(7 times minimum, or as many times as you can throughout the day)

🪷 Making water bowl offerings

🪷 Offering flowers, candles, incense, or light

🪷 Reading Dharma teachings

🪷 Spending time in meditation

🪷 Practising generosity and kindness

🪷 Releasing resentment and cultivating compassion

🪷 Dedicating all merit and positive actions for the benefit of all sentient beings

The Buddha taught that every moment presents an opportunity to awaken the mind and open the heart. Saka Dawa reminds us to make this life meaningful through wisdom, compassion, and service to others.

May all beings be free from suffering and its causes.

🙏 With love,
The Lojong Meditation Team

Congratulations!

When:
Damaging winds developing about central and eastern areas this evening.

Situation:
A deep low pressure system and associated cold front continues to approach Victoria today, with vigorous northwesterly winds expected ahead of the cold front as it crosses the state tonight and into Tuesday morning.

Impacts:
For Central Victoria: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with damaging wind gusts of around 90 km/h are likely to develop over the Macedon and Otway ranges and their southern slopes alongside lower lying areas, including the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Additionally, exposed areas around the Bellarine and Mornington Peninsulas may also see damaging wind gusts to 90 km/h this evening.

For the Northeastern Ranges: Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely over elevated areas above 1200 metres from late this evening.

Winds are forecast to ease from central Victoria before dawn on Tuesday, and from the northeastern ranges by late Tuesday morning.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.

Check https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and.../warnings-and-alerts.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Monday.

FYI!

01/06/2026

Visitors to Victoria’s parks and forests are being reminded that majority of the seasonal road and track closures will begin from 11 June, following the King’s Birthday long weekend.

Closures help keep visitors safe and protect roads and tracks from winter damage caused by rain and snow.

Each year, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Parks Victoria and the Conservation Regulator enforce road and track closures across public land from June to November.

Before heading out, check road and track closure and local conditions:
➡️ Check the weather forecast
➡️ download the VicEmergency app
➡️ Check which roads are open and suitable for your vehicle

For more information, visit ffm.vic.gov.au/permits-and-regulations/closures-of-parks-and-forests or contact DEECA Customer Call Centre on 136 186.
