Severe thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon or evening over parts of Sydney Metropolitan, the Illawarra, the Southern and Central Tablelands and the ACT including Canberra, bringing the risk of damaging winds (gusts >90km/h), large hail (diameter >2 cm), and heavy rain leading the flash flooding.
High-end thunderstorms bringing the risk of giant hail (>5cm diameter), destructive winds (gusts > 125km/h), and intense rainfall will be a watch point.
Severe thunderstorms are possible (10-30% chance) about a broader area including the Hunter, the Southwest Slopes, the Snowy Mountains, and the South Coast.
Non-severe thunderstorms are also possible over many areas of the state, extending over the far west and as far north as the Mid-North Coast. Thunderstorms are possible from the late morning and may continue into the night.
This is a forecast only. If severe storms develop, area specific warnings will be issued. If you require emergency help, call the NSW SES on 132 500 and if life-threatening, call 000 (Triple Zero).
