Upper Lachlan Shire Council

Upper Lachlan Shire Council Local Government area in New South Wales It is an area that is known for its fine wool and potato production, history and picturesque countryside.

Upper Lachlan is located on the Southern Tablelands about 45km west of Goulburn, about 100km north of Canberra and about 130km south-east of Bathurst. About 7,500 people live in the Shire, with about 2,000 people living in the major centre of Crookwell with the majority living in the smaller towns and villages or on properties. Despite it's proximity to major centres, Upper Lachlan Shire is strong

ly rural in its character. Agricultural endeavour has been a feature of the economic and social fabric of the Shire. There are, however, major shifts occurring in agriculture with the introduction of new farming methods and diversification of many land holdings toward new ventures such as olive growing, alpaca wool and horse studs. Furthermore, Upper Lachlan Shire is becoming a popular destination for retirees and people wishing to leave large cities for a lifestyle change. The economic base of the Shire is also changing, with tourism becoming the third major industry in the Shire, behind the traditional agricultural industries and retail.

Council’s Garbage Truck Operators are seeing an uptick in numbers of missed bins which have not been out when the truck arrives, so we have asked them for their top tips for Bin Day:-

• Driver’s can’t guarantee we will be at someone’s house at the same time every Bin Day, so put your bins out the night before;
• The ULSC logo should be facing outward to the road with enough room between bins so that the truck forks can lift the bin;
• Do not put your bin where the truck can not get to it e.g. behind a parked car;
• Only put the right items in the right bin, drivers do not collect contaminated bins; and;
• Make sure nothing is jammed in the bin (like carboard boxes) so that it empties when the truck shakes and taps it.

If you follow these simple tips, straight from Councils Garbage Truck operators’, collection day will go smoothly.

Collection times are subject to change due to circumstances such as public holidays. Updates to collection times are published on Upper Lachlan Shire

Upper Lachlan Shire Council rangers have been actively working across the Shire, undertaking a range of important tasks to keep the community safe, ensuring animals are properly contained, and fostering respect throughout the area. 🤝

Council has notably installed a K-9 Kube on the ranger vehicles for safer, kinder dog handling and to keep both our staff and furry friends protected.

In addition, Council have upgraded the animal holding facility with better, bigger, and safer pens— improving animal welfare for those animals in Councils care.
