Crews from Crows Nest and Lane Cove Fire Stations were proud to join Royal North Shore Hospital and NSW Ambulance, and other emergency service partners in delivering the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) program.

This powerful, interactive program gives young drivers a firsthand look at the real consequences of risky driving and substance use. Students hear directly from trauma doctors, nurses, paramedics, firefighters, police, and crash survivors, gaining a deeper understanding of the life-changing impacts that can result from a single poor decision.

By sharing our experiences and working alongside our health and emergency service colleagues, we hope to empower young people to make safer choices behind the wheel, protecting not only themselves but everyone who shares our roads.

Every safe decision has the potential to save a life.

⚠️ Electric Blanket Fire Safety Reminder ⚠️

Crews from Crows Nest Fire Station recently responded to a fire involving an electric blanket.

Thankfully, the resident was home, quickly recognised the fire, and was able to safely suppress it before firefighters arrived. Had the fire gone unnoticed, the outcome could have been far more serious, with the potential to destroy the home.

As the weather gets colder, Fire and Rescue NSW encourages everyone to use electric blankets safely:

✅ Inspect your electric blanket before use for signs of wear, frayed cords, scorch marks or damage.
✅ Never fold or bunch the blanket while it's switched on, as this can cause overheating.
✅ Turn the blanket off before going to sleep unless it is specifically designed and labelled for overnight use.
✅ Store electric blankets loosely rolled rather than folded to avoid damaging the internal wiring.
✅ Replace older or damaged electric blankets that no longer meet modern safety standards.

A few simple precautions can make all the difference in preventing a house fire.

If you notice smoke or fire, get everyone out, stay out, and call 000 immediately.
