🧗‍♂️ TRAINING NIGHT | SAFE WORKING AT HEIGHTS 🪢🪜

There was plenty of Hi-Vis orange lighting up Maroondah last night as our volunteers took part in another Safe Working at Heights tactical training session. 🟠🟠🟠

We run tactical training sessions every week to ensure our members maintain the skills, confidence and proficiency needed for whatever comes our way. Whether it’s storm damage, fallen trees, damaged roofs or another emergency, regular hands-on training helps ensure we’re ready to safely support the Maroondah community when you need us most. 💪

And to anyone near our training location last night…

😬 If we disrupted your evening — we are sorry.
🐶 If we made your pooch bark at the strange orange people wandering around in helmets — we are sorry.
🟠 And if you were offended by the truly excessive amount of Hi-Vis orange — we are sorry.

We promise we’ll do better next time… with our signage letting you know we’re training, that is. The orange however is definitely staying! 😂

💛 It’s National Missing Persons Week.

This week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact that missing persons have on families, friends and communities, while recognising the importance of those who help bring loved ones 🏡.

At VICSES, our volunteers work alongside Victoria Police during search operations across the state. From dense bushland to challenging and remote terrain, our specialist Search and Rescue teams are trained to operate in some of Victoria’s toughest environments. 🚔

While we hope these skills are never needed, our volunteers stand ready to help when every minute counts.

📱🚨 Don't panic... your phone is supposed to make that noise!

Australia's new national warning system, AusAlert, is being tested at 2:00 pm on Monday 27 July.

What to expect:
📲 You'll receive a test alert on your mobile phone.
🔊 It will vibrate and play a loud, siren-like sound for around 10 seconds – even if your phone is on silent or "Do Not Disturb." (So don't blame the cat if it jumps off the couch! 😄)

A few things to know:
✅ AusAlert is Australia's new national warning system.
✅ It does not replace VicEmergency and will only be used in certain emergency situations.
✅ This is only a test, so there's nothing you need to do.

⚠️ Important: If this test could cause you or someone you care about to feel unsafe, switch your phone off or place it in aeroplane mode before 2:00 pm, and leave it that way for at least one hour.

In a real emergency, always follow the instructions in the alert to help keep yourself and others safe.

Our volunteers train regularly to sharpen their skills, build confidence and work as a team, so when storms and emergencies strike, we're ready to respond.

🌳 Tree down? Before you reach for the chainsaw, ask yourself... where did it land?

Not every fallen tree needs SES, but if it's damaged a building or is creating an immediate safety risk, we're here to help.
