Fire Permits are now required as of 1st September 2026 in the Gunnedah, Liverpool Plains and Upper Hunter Local Government Areas. Applying for a permit can be done through your local brigade or online via rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

Stay up to date with alerts and warnings so you know what you should do.

ADVICE means a fire has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes.

WATCH AND ACT means there is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action to protect you and your family.

EMERGENCY WARNING is the highest level of alert. You may be in danger and need to take action immediately. Any delay puts your life at risk.

Bush fires can occur quickly and without warning.

Before you travel, make sure you have checked the conditions and have a plan in place if things change. Let people know your movements and if it’s not safe, avoid traveling altogether.

Always keep an eye out for emergency vehicles and if you see a fire call triple Zero (000).

In an emergency, every second counts.

Make sure your property entrance is clearly signed, easy to identify from the road, and fitted with visible property numbers at the main gate or fence line.

This is especially important in rural and semi-rural areas where properties can be difficult to locate at night, in smoke, or during fast moving bush fires.

Clear property identification helps firefighters reach you faster when it matters most. Take a few minutes to check your signage and ensure your property can be easily identified in an
emergency. It could save valuable time when help is

The Liverpool Range District Bush Fire Danger Period has been brought forward to commence on the 1 September 2026.

This aligns with several neighbouring districts that will also commence their Bush Fire Danger Period on 1 September 2026, while all remaining districts will retain the standard commencement date of 1 October 2026.

The earlier commencement of the Bush Fire Danger Period will see fire permit in place, helping to ensure burning activities are conducted safely and appropriately under current and forecasted seasonal conditions.

Residents are reminded that a fire permit will be required from 1st September 2026.

Remember to bring important documents such as passports and birth certificates and medical prescriptions.
Also, ensure you pack changes of clothes, water, non-perishable food, chargers, and any medications you may need. It may be some time before it will be safe for you to return home.
