Currency Creek Country Fire Service Volunteers protecting life and property in South Australia.

Fire season officially ends tonight, but before you start burning please remember:
- it's still been quite dry, so the area surrounding your burn may still ignite and get away
- make sure you have a clear area all around, including above the burn
- make sure you have a reliable water supply on hand
- watch for overhead hazards (trees etc)
- consider the weather forecast, especially for wind speed and direction
- if things start getting out of hand, call us early on 000 (don't call us for a response on the local station number, this will not get you the fastest response)
- don't take on more than you can handle and please take care

Thanks everyone

🚨 NEW FIREGROUND DRONE CONTROL PROGRAM 🚨

To help keep our aircraft and firefighters safe, the South Australian Country Fire Service has today launched the latest weapon in its aerial firefighting arsenal — the DroneHawk™ Interception Unit. 🦅

Working alongside our Black Hawk helicopters, specially trained hawks will now patrol firegrounds across South Australia to intercept recreational drones flying illegally above incidents.

Equipped with advanced talon-guidance technology and exceptional aerial agility, DroneHawks can safely remove drones from the airspace before they interfere with firebombing aircraft and emergency operations.

Remember: If you fly, we can’t.

Please keep drones well away from firegrounds so our crews and aircraft can do their job safely.

Don't queue in the sun to vote today!
Come to Currency Creek - we've got plenty of parking, sausages, cakes and hardly any queueing.
Get down here!

04/03/2026

With just over two weeks until the state election, we're getting ready to run the usual sausage sizzle.
If you haven't voted at Currency Creek before, come along and you'll find easy parking, little to no queueing, and best of all, free sausages!

Yes, our sausages are free, of course we will have the donation bucket out for you to drop any change into if you want to support us.
(we also have EFTPOS!)
You can also ask us about volunteering, we'll be happy to help.
We'll be cooking from 8am until mid afternoon and we hope to see you there.

It's the little things that mean a lot.
We've been very busy lately between the Nangkita fire, and now the Deep Creek fire.
Our crews have been taking time off work to go and help, we don't always get a proper feed and sometimes it can be mentally challenging, not knowing if the house you've saved this time, will be okay later after a wind shift.
We do what we can, but the little positives in the day really keep us going - finding a jelly snake under the sandwich that finally gets handed to you, a resident bringing out a tray of tea and coffee after a long overnight shift, these little things sound so simple, but they mean a lot to us.
Last week after a shift at Nangkita we stopped for coffee at the Mount Compass servo and they didn't let us pay (I can't tag them but I hope they know how much that meant), and the coffee was really good too!
This week we received a cheque from a local to help the brigade buy things we need, like food in our ration packs.
We'll keep working and doing what we can. We know everyone can't jump on a truck and help directly, but when you donate to us at election time, or bring us a hot drink, we really do appreciate your support.

Thank you

Here are a few pictures from the fire ground in Nangkita yesterday. Our crews were amongst the first to arrive and worked until the early morning.
Photos show the big picture fire going a long way into the distance and over a large hill, and the type of jobs we can handle as one truck, stopping the fire edges spreading to prevent further losses in the area.

If you got stuck on Goolwa Road this afternoon, this is why.
Not all 'tree down' jobs are equal!
Thankfully, as we had to close the road anyway, we were able to accept the help of a telehandler and dingo digger to help move the large logs, and get the road open much more quickly.
Thanks to the truck driver and tradies who helped.
Great team work with South Coast State Emergency Service as usual.

We've been having a bit of fun lately celebrating the festive season. Our Christmas community BBQ last week was a hit, with more people coming along than I can remember, and a special visit by a rather jolly man in red.
Then we were invited to join in Goolwa's Christmas pageant on Sunday, which we jumped at. We love seeing all the smiles and festive cheer, and some of our members kids got the chance to ride the truck, which doesn't happen often.
We wish you all a happy and safe holiday period. Please take care and remember we're in fire season now, so be extra careful out there.

Two things happening today
1 - our community Christmas BBQ. Bring a salad or dessert to share and a few coins for the raffle (or we can take EFTPOS). 6pm til 8pm, look out for a jolly man in red!
2 - fire season begins in the Mount Lofty Ranges district. No more burning without a permit from the council (or SAPOL will be visiting you)
Have a happy and safe season of goodwill
