Hey guys we would like to do a quick clarification on this article. Firstly of all this photo is an incorrect rendition... Locals report that the croc was at most 1.5m in length... And at that size they are extremely shy and timid, not aggressive. Secondly rather than "viciously attacking" the elderly gentleman, I have been told by friends who work there that the young croc had been stepped on when the gentleman stepped into the pond to retrieve his ball. Therefore it no doubt did it in self defense, believing itself under attack and attempting to get the gentleman off it by nipping his leg. If it were truly vicious rather than fleeing the minute it was free it would have continued to attack which was not the case. It is well known that young crocs will live in small lakes and ponds for protection from larger predators and to get to 1.5m this croc has obviously lived in the area for a decent period of time moving from place to place and causing no trouble else it would have been removed from the Port Douglas region by now. We would advise you to not form opinions on the reptiles based on an article that is misleading such as this one is. I myself have lived in Daintree for 19 yrs and am unharmed, much like many others. These animals have only had two fatal attacks in the last 20 yrs, one of which was a midnight drunken swim. We urge you not to panic or feel afraid of these animals. Only give them and their homes the respect they deserve.
Thank you all for reading :)
