The Lyndale Secondary College debating team recently participated in the Model United Nations Assembly.

Across the day, our students tackled three major resolutions alongside 13 other delegations:

Lily Fletcher and Merin Beljo opened the assembly as sponsors of Resolution 1 on International Migration and Development. Their resolution was successfully carried!
Olivia Fletcher and Sandali Mathew argued in favour of Resolution 2 on weapons in outer space, highlighting the importance of keeping space for satellite and GPS communications.
Vigashni Murugananda and Merin Beljo took on Resolution 3, an unprepared debate on the impact of AI on human rights — also successfully carried!

Huge congratulations to our students for their teamwork, diplomacy and dedication!

Last week, we celebrated Bullying No Way Week with activities focused on kindness, respect and creating a positive school community. Students were challenged to think about the small things they can do to show kindness at school, as well as recognise acts of kindness they have recently witnessed or experienced. On the way out, they could grab some lollipops!

It was wonderful to see our students taking the time to reflect on how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

This week, around 60 Lyndale students participated in Write a Book in a Day. From 8.00am to 8.00pm, our students spent 12 hours working in teams of eight to write and illustrate books for The Kids' Cancer Project. This is an initiative we always look forward to being part of each year and we're so proud of the students that dedicated their time to it!

Our College Captain Liv recently recorded a new episode of the Lyndale Legacy podcast with alumna Cassandra Fernando MP, the Federal Member for Holt.

Our Year 12s had the opportunity to listen to Cassandra talk about life as a politician and the challenges she has faced.

Our International Students enjoyed a mid-year excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium.

Students explored the aquarium’s many exhibits and took part in interactive activities learning about marine ecosystems, sustainability and careers relating to marine life. After exploring the aquarium, students enjoyed a walk to Southbank and a relaxing lunch together before catching the train back to school.

It was a great opportunity to spend time together outside of the school environment, build connections and feel more involved in school life.

As part of a local community initiative, the Lyndale Interact Club recently visited Regis Aged Care in North Dandenong, spending an afternoon with residents.

For both the students and residents, it was an experience to remember:

"When we first arrived at Regis, I felt nervous about what to expect, but that soon changed when I saw how much their faces lit up when we talked to them. This experience made me more aware that sometimes all a person needs is someone to talk to. Seeing the residents happy made the visit feel worthwhile and reminded me how important it is to connect with people from different generations."
— Olivia, Year 9

"Visiting the aged care centre was a truly meaningful and emotional experience. I had the opportunity to speak with one resident in my mother tongue, Tamil, which made our conversation especially personal and comforting. Listening to the residents share their life stories reminded me how much companionship and a simple conversation can brighten someone's day. It was heartwarming to see that even a short one-hour visit could make such a positive difference, and the experience left me feeling grateful and inspired."
— Vigashni, Year 9

We're so proud of our Interact members for showing up with open hearts.
