🌟 Meet Dr. Sanduk Ruit, the “God of Sight” from Nepal 🌟

This incredible eye surgeon has restored the vision of over 180,000 people across Africa and Asia, many of them completely free of charge. Born in a remote village in Nepal, Dr. Ruit faced immense hardships growing up, but he dedicated his life to giving the gift of sight.

He developed a low-cost, small-incision cataract surgery technique that can be done in under five minutes, with a 98% success rate. Through the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, he provides affordable eye care, manufactures lenses for less than $5, and even travels to remote villages to set up makeshift eye camps.

His work has transformed thousands of lives and earned him global recognition, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Padma Shri, and the ISA Award for Service to Humanity.

Since my arrival in Darwin in 2020, I have been actively involved in community engagement. From 2021 to 2023, I had the honour of serving as Joint Secretary in the NRNA NT SCC. During that term, we worked diligently on various impactful initiatives that strengthened our cultural heritage and built lasting connections within the Nepalese community of the Northern Territory.

Even during the past two years while I’ve not held an official position, I’ve remained committed. I have supported ongoing activities, encouraged participation, celebrated collective achievements, and offered constructive suggestions whenever possible. I was present in spirit and effort—always advocating for a more connected, vibrant, and united community.

While I believe this election should have been resolved through timely and fair consultation, the process now moves forward, and I’m ready to contribute. I am particularly impressed by the upcoming manifesto and agendas led by Mr. Bhawani Paudyal—emphasizing accountability, teamwork, and inclusive progress.

Successful celebrations of Colombian Independence Day 2024 and the launch of the Colombian-Australian Association of the Northern Territory (COLANT).

Fellow Colombians behind the event exceeded their goals and so much more! Not only did they launch the association, COLANT, but also broke records with more than 700 visitors, including children and youth, surpassing our initial expectations. The response from the community and the public was overwhelming, and this would not

Through more than 15 presentations and activities, and with 5 market stalls and 7 food stalls offering 26 different options of Colombian products, many never seen before, which gave an impressive display of our culture showcasing our skills and businesses, with some even securing new opportunities for growth, selling over $17K in food and drinks, with more than 1,400 items sold to more than 400 different individuals.
