The Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commission promotes equal opportunity for all Territorians. Established in 1993, we aim to eliminate discrimination from happening by raising awareness about individual’s rights and responsibilities under the Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Act. The Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commissioner is Sally Sievers. The Commission has three main

roles:

Public education and training
We provide public education and training through a set program as well as tailored training to organisations and individuals. Handling complaints
We provide information about your rights and responsibilities under anti-discrimination law. We also accept, investigate and help resolve complaints of discrimination. Community engagement
We attend public forums, meetings and organisations to hear and share information about rights and responsibilities under the Act.

World Autism Awareness Day (April 2) is a global opportunity to promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of autistic people in all aspects of life.

Under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT), it is unlawful to discriminate against someone based on disability, including autism.

This day serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to ensure equal opportunities in education, employment, and community participation. By fostering awareness and embracing neurodiversity, we can build a Northern Territory where every individual is valued and supported.

Today, we had the privilege of hosting Giri Sivaraman கிரி சிவராமன், the Federal Race Discrimination Commissioner, along with the Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Jeswynn Yogaratnam, at Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation HQ on Larrakia Country.

Ironbark CEO Shaun Pearce and key staff members shared insights into our Positive Duty journey, sparking a robust discussion on race and intersection of the 24 protected attributes. At Ironbark, applying a Positive Duty lens is no longer a side initiative — it’s becoming business as usual.

From the foundations we've already embedded to the bold goals we’ve set for the future, we’re reshaping how we work to ensure respect, safety, and inclusion are at the heart of our organisation. We’re proud to be building workplaces where our values lead, and every story is honoured.

We look forward to hearing more from Commissioner Sivaraman at the upcoming Positive Duty Oration & Launch of the National Anti-Racism Framework being held at the Danala Education & Community Precinct, Charles Darwin University on Wednesday, 2 April at 5:30 PM.

This is a free event, open to the community, with limited seating, more details can be found here: https://events.humanitix.com/federal-race-discrimination-commissioner-oration

31/03/2025

International Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31) is a time to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and contributions of transgender and gender-diverse people while raising awareness of the challenges they continue to face.

The Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commission stands in solidarity with transgender communities, reaffirming the right to live with dignity, free from discrimination. Under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT), it is unlawful to discriminate against someone based on gender identity, ensuring protections in areas such as employment, education, and public services.

On this day, we recognise the importance of visibility, advocacy, and policy reform in building a more inclusive Northern Territory where everyone is respected for who they are.
