Making sure we have reliable and affordable power in the bush is a big issue, and is something that's only getting worse.

That's why it's great to see the Borroloola Micro-grid project closer than ever to setting up shop.

Headed up by local corporation Ngardara, this project could slash power bills in Borroloola by up to 50 per cent.

The NLC is always supportive of projects that not only reduce cost of living pressures on country, but empower Aboriginal people to work and live on their Country.

Last week 20 residents returned home to Daly River after many months away from their homes and Country.

It's been a long and tough road for Daly River mob.

The community and the river are still in a fragile state after this massive flood and the NLC supports calls from the Malak Malak Traditional Owners to treat the river with respect and care over the next few months.

A big thankyou to everyone who has worked hard to clean homes, get the shop back open, and we look forward to everyone being able to return home when it's safe to do so.

This week the Caring for Country (CFC) unit brought together senior staff and coordinators from our 14 ranger programs on Larrakia Country for an important few days of planning.

The groups discussed everything from progress of the CFC strategic plan to regional priorities, updates to assets and heard from other NLC branches.

A special thanks to ranger coordinators Tim BurrBurr and Kelvin Gardiner for firing up the BBQ after a massive week to put on a tasty feed for everyone. 🔥

STATEMENT BY THE MALAK MALAK GROUP REGARDING DALY RIVER

"We, the Malak Malak people have been managing and protecting the Daly River for thousands of years, sustaining its ecological health and in recent year safeguarding its reputation as a world-class barramundi fishery.

In the aftermath of the most severe flooding in living memory, we are very concerned about environmental damage to the river, including impacts to cultural sites, riverbank stability, and changes to sand systems and water flows. Our river is in a fragile state, and it is critical that sufficient time is allowed to assess it and allow it to recover at its own pace.

Many of us are residents of Daly River and nearby communities and many of us have been displaced and unable to return to our homes for many months. This situation requires urgent and continued attention.

While we recognise the economic importance of fishing competitions to the Northern Territory and the Daly River region, the river’s recovery must be the priority. We appreciate constructive engagement with AFANT and fishing organisations and welcome their shared commitment to protecting the river for future generations.

While we have agreed that events may proceed, we must ensure that fishing competition organisers and participants work closely with us and adhere to heightened standards of environmental and cultural care while the river remains vulnerable.

As custodians, we welcome respectful use of Country, but this must not occur at the expense of the river’s recovery and cultural integrity. We will continue to actively advocate for the protection of the river during this critical period.

Those of us who remain unable to access our homes and lands, while visitor access continues, should not be forgotten. We are very happy to hear that some residents will be returning to Daly River later this week, and we urge the Northern Territory Government to ensure that all remaining residents are able to return as soon as possible."

Today is National Sorry Day, a day to remember and honour Stolen Generations survivors, and to acknowledge their enduring resilience.

Today, we recognise the pain of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, cultures and Country, and the lasting impacts on individuals and families across the country.

Saying sorry isn't enough. There must be action. The theme of this year’s Reconciliation Week, “All In”, is a reminder that reconciliation must be about more than recognition - its about listening, accountability and action across all parts of society.

After a huge wet season across the Top End, Learning on Country Program teams are getting back to it.

The LoC crew in Wugularr recently headed out for a fishing trip, catching plenty of small fish and learned to measure and cooked up a feed by the water. 🐟📏🔥

Can't wait to see what the program has in store for the rest of the year!

The Northern Land Council stands with Aboriginal Peak bodies against proposed changes to NT Child protection laws.

These changes will not protect Aboriginal kids and families. Keeping kids with family and connected to culture will.

Once again, we are asking the government to listen and work with Aboriginal leaders and organisations - we have the answers.

Meet Seraphina Watson, one of the first female drone pilots for Manmoyi outstation Warddeken Daluk (women) Rangers.

Completing all her qualifications last year, Seraphina is using her drone skills to survey and monitor Country.

She's now passing on these skills to up and coming generations of rangers.

“Younger women, and even old people, are interested in using the drone. They come and ask me – ‘let’s go, show us how to use the drone."
