When children and young people in care have complex behaviours, trauma or disability, Intensive Therapeutic Residential Care (ITRC) provides safe, specialist support.

Young people like Kane* who had been self-placing and engaging in high-risk offending, or Lily* who had also been self-placing and refusing services and supports — with patient, consistent support from ITRC carers and staff, alongside dedicated child protection teams, both young people have re-engaged with school, reduced high-risk behaviours and built more positive relationships.

These stories show the difference therapeutic care and strong relationships can make in the lives of vulnerable young people.

This Global Day of Parents, we're celebrating the parents, carers, grandparents, Elders and family members who help children feel safe, loved and connected.

Across the Territory, Child and Family Centres, Parentline Qld + NT and local family support services are helping families access advice, build connections and find support close to home.

Your voice matters.
We're looking for Aboriginal people from across the Northern Territory to join the new Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Aboriginal Advisory Group.

This group will help guide how we prevent and respond to domestic, family and sexual violence across the Territory.

We want people with knowledge, lived experience and strong connections to their communities. People from all regions, including remote communities, can apply.

By joining the group, you can help create safer futures for women, children, families and communities.

Applications close midnight Sunday 7 June 2026.

National Reconciliation Week provides activities for families, carers and educators, including colouring-in sheets and resources that help start conversations in safe and age-appropriate ways.
For those working with children and families, these can be a helpful way to create space for learning and reflection — whether at home, in care, or in community settings.
