64 years ago, on the15th of August in 1962 in the New York Agreement was signed handing over control of West Papua to Indonesia. Today Papuans and settler allies rise and protest across West Papua to mark this continuing injustice and ongoing colonial violence, risking their lives and incarceration and torture.
The story of the brutal military occupation of West Papua, the genocide, is another gruelling tale of capitalist imperialism and colonialism. You see there was one of the world’s largest gold deposits 4,100 metres above sea level in one of Papua’s most remote areas on the ancestral lands of the Aika Tribe. Historian Greg Poulgrain has hypothesised that JFK’s assassination is linked to the Rockefeller dynasty securing tenancy to mine this gold through the infamous CIA agent, Allen Dulles. They had kept concealed their discovery of the gold in the Papuan highlands since 1935, until in 1959, the New York Times published an article revealing the Dutch were searching for the mountain source of alluvial gold that had been washed into the Arafura Sea. This quickly moved after that and Indonesia invaded West Papua in 1961, after the Dutch left them with their independence. In 1970 the US owned Freeport McMoran officially opened the gold mine in 1973, still in operation today. 64 years on military forces are building up again under President Prabowo, a tyrant in the occupation of Timor Leste, to continue the exploitation of resources and dispossession of land. It is estimated up to 500,000 Papuans have been killed since the occupation, currently over 100,000 Papuans are internally displaced. All eyes on West Papua on this anniversary of the New York Agreement.

*Change time for meeting. Now meeting at 4PM!*

Lets beat the traffic and get there early and catch more people on their way to this horrendous ‘show’ that starts at 5pm.

We’ll be there to protest the glorification of military machinery designed to manufacture our consent for diverting public funds into the war machine that helps to commit genocide, environmental destruction.

A war machine that demands the diversion of public funds from housing, healthcare and education.

All of this on unceded country with no consent from the owners of this land!
