What a great weekend!

22-24 May 2026, cadets from both 70 ACU Larrakeyah & 71 ACU Palmerston attended a Recruit Induction Bivouac.

More than 60 cadets (39 of them Cadet Recruits) took part in a weekend designed to challenge the recruits both physically and mentally while introducing them to life within the Australian Army Cadets. This year’s attendance more than doubled the usual numbers and reflects the enthusiasm, dedication and growth of our units and Battalion.

Throughout the bivouac, recruits stepped outside their comfort zones and developed skills in fieldcraft, drill, teamwork, leadership, survival tactics and self-discipline. Many arrived unsure of what to expect, but left with increased confidence, new knowledge, friendships, and proudly earning their cadet rank slide.

A huge congratulations to our recruits for the resilience, determination and professionalism shown across the weekend. You represented yourselves and your units exceptionally well, and this is only the beginning of your cadet journey.

This activity was also a fantastic example of cadet-led leadership, with our CDTSGTs and CDTCPLs working incredibly hard to design and deliver training that challenged and supported our recruits while preparing them for future activities, including our upcoming Annual Field Exercise.

Thank you to all staff, senior cadets and Directing Staff who dedicated their time to planning, mentoring and ensuring the activity was conducted safely and professionally. To our parents and guardians, thank you for your continued support and trust — activities like this would not be possible without you.

Stand proud recruits — well done on a successful bivouac!

LT (AAC) Sarah Davidson, MAJ (AAC) Julie Andrew and LTCOL Sean Payne had the privilege of attending the NT Volunteer of the Year Awards last night at Parliament House Darwin.

MAJ (AAC) Julie Andrew was recognised through her nomination for her outstanding service and dedication to the Northern Territory Australian Army Cadets Battalion. Julie has devoted over three decades of volunteer service to supporting and mentoring young people across the Territory, and it was wonderful to see her commitment acknowledged during National Volunteer Week.

It was also a very surreal and proud moment to see one of our former Regional Cadet Under Officers, the Honourable Chief Minister Leah Finocchiaro, speaking at tonight’s event. Seeing former cadets go on to achieve great things within our community truly highlights the lasting impact that volunteering and youth development programs can have.

A fantastic evening celebrating the incredible volunteers who make a difference across the Northern Territory.

Below are handy tips for dress and bearing for Anzac Day.

Note:
- all female AAC members (Army Cadet Staff and cadets) must have their hair in a bun (no pony tails or plaits).
- only clear nail polish and minimal makeup is allowed (no false eyelashes or heavy eyeliner, coloured lipstick or makeup).
- for cadets wearing ceremonials (black belt and brass), follow the tips below for your slouch hat.
- any cadets not wearing a black belt and brass will need to have their slouch hat brim down (or bush hat).
- all staff and cadets follow the AAC Dress Manual for jewellery (only one pair of small sleepers or studs for females; no earrings for male cadets; and no necklaces, bracelets, rings for all staff and cadets).
- no chewing gum whilst in uniform.

Your Army Cadet Staff will check cadets’ dress and bearing prior to the Anzac Day March on Saturday.

Thank you to 49 ACU for creating the document.🫡🇦🇺

ACS and Cadet Achievement Recognition

NT AAC BN are proud to congratulate one of our Army Cadet Staff member and two of our cadets on successfully achieving their Bronze Award for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

👏 LT (AAC) Xander Hall
👏 CDT CPL Ramneet Gill
👏 CDT LCPL Hadi Warraich

This is a fantastic accomplishment that reflects their dedication, resilience, and commitment across service, skill, and physical recreation components of the program.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is internationally recognised and challenges young people to step outside their comfort zones, develop new skills, and contribute to their community — something these cadets have demonstrated exceptionally well.

Well done on this outstanding achievement. Your efforts set a great example for others within the unit.
