Facebook rules

The Hepburn Shire Council page is designed to provide the community with important information in a timely way. If you have a service request that relates to any of the services provided by Council, we encourage you to lodge a service request via our website at https://www.hepburn.vic.gov.au/request or call our customer service team on (03) 5348 2306. If you wish to make

a formal complaint a Complaints Form is available on our website at www.hepburn.vic.gov.au/complaint. Hepburn Shire Council has disabled comments for a period of six months from 14 April 2025. Over recent months, we have seen a concerning increase in commentary from a small number of community members that has become personally targeted, hostile, and aggressive—particularly toward our Council staff. While we welcome and encourage respectful dialogue and value community feedback, the safety and wellbeing of our staff and Councillors is our priority and a legislated responsibility. We remain committed to open and transparent communication. Community members are encouraged to continue engaging with Council through the appropriate channels, including our website, customer service centres, formal consultation processes and in a respectful manner with staff and Councillors. We would appreciate your understanding and support as we work to maintain a respectful environment where we are kind to each other even where we may not agree. Moderating and replying to messages will generally occur during our regular business hours of Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm. Messages submitted at other times will be responded to when practicable.

Cockatoos causing damage 🐦

Council has received a number of reports about cockatoos damaging homes in the area. Although this is not something Council can directly control, we are happy to point you towards helpful information and practical ways for managing some of these challenging behaviours.

It's important not to feed cockatoos. According to DEECA, "Damage to timber fittings and outdoor furniture often occurs when someone is providing food for the birds and attracting them to the area."

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) has some guides and information on how to reduce damage from Cockatoos ➡️ https://www.wildlife.vic.gov.au/managing-wildlife/cockatoos

Councillor Column 📰

This week Cr Lesley Hewitt talks about her experience of how the Japanese deal with public rubbish after a recent trip, Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and more.

"...I was walking around Lake Daylesford on the Monday of the recent King’s Birthday weekend. I picked up several handfuls of rubbish and noted that every bin that I walked to had space for more rubbish. So why don’t we take personal responsibility for cleaning up our own mess but expect someone else to do it?"

The draft 2026/27 Budget relies heavily on Council’s own resourcing due to a lack of support from state and federal governments.

The draft is disciplined, financially accountable and responds to unreasonable cost pressures handed down from state and federal governments.
