Back with the final updates from chapters 5 to 7 of The Mountain is You ⛰️ by Brianna Wiest.

I thought this book was phenomenal in how it explained various aspects of our subconscious mind at work in either keeping us back or moving us forward in living in alignment with our best selves.

The examples given bring the concepts back to readers and the analogies linking back to the natural laws really sealed it altogether. It was beautiful and compassionate in the way it all was delivered.

I got a lot out of this book. I’d recommend a read if you get the chance to.

Happy and healthy new year!! 😊 It’s been a while so I’m glad to be back.

I’ve been reading The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest, a great book that delves into self-sabotage and clearly explains the power of our subconscious mind in the whole process. This post outlines my highlights from chapters 1 to 4. Further chapter updates will be coming soon! 📖

If you’ve read this book before, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on it!

It’s my second time reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, a classic fictional read with life lessons scattered throughout the story 🌙 🐪🏜️

Here are some of the key lessons I’ve gathered from my second read of this book so far:
⚜️ In chasing the security of familiarity and status or significance, we can lose sight of what we truly want out of life.
⚜️ As we grow older, it can feel much easier to succumb to believing it is impossible to live our dream life, than to see the challenges as the force that sets us up in our will and spirit for something previously perceived as impossible.
⚜️ Once we decide that we really want something for ourselves and take action to get closer towards it, our surroundings will ultimately respond accordingly to help us in our journey. It’s the way the universe responds to the energy we emit to it.
⚜️ There is always something to learn from our surroundings and whatever we encounter in our journey.
⚜️ Don’t be too impatient and forget about experiencing the present moment, otherwise we’ll miss the signs and what our intuition has to tell us. Meanwhile, remain persistent and build our courage to continue the journey.

📖 REVIEW of Rising Strong by Brené Brown:

Upon reading this heartfelt guide on building our own narratives when faced with challenges and ‘face-down’ moments, intercepted with Brené’s monologues as she rumbled with her own struggles, I was struck by the honesty displayed by Brené in this book. The concepts explored were rather abstract, but Brené demonstrated through her own expressed vulnerability and the way she guided readers through them that they can be easily digested if one remains open hearted and minded. ❤️🧠

The key lessons I learnt from this book revolved around the ‘Rising Strong’ process, which is the journey we go through when we stumble or fall in the face of a challenge and eventually rise back up with resilience from such an experience:

💡 The Reckoning → When we encounter a difficult situation, we ought to be willing to reckon with one’s emotions. This involves recognising any felt feelings (e.g., on edge or triggered), getting curious about what’s happening and how the feelings are connected to our thoughts and behaviours.

💡 The Rumble → Be honest about the stories we’ve made up about our struggles and be willing to revisit, challenge and reality-check these narratives that dig into topics like boundaries, shame, blame, resentment, heartbreak, generosity and forgiveness. This part will allow us to uncover key learnings about who we are and how we engage with others. It’s the part of the process that allows us to integrate our unpleasant experiences and memories into our story to become more whole. A practical way to do this is by journalling our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, actions and the stories we are making up about a situation. This will allow us to identify patterns, tendencies or biases within our cultivated narratives.

💡 The Revolution → Eventually, if done effectively, we arise from the rumble by integrating key learnings that emerge from the rumble into how we live, love, lead, parent and participate as citizens. This transformative stage in becoming more integrated with the lessons from our experiences have tremendous ramifications for not only our own lives but also for our families, organisations and communities.

Overall, I’d give this book a robust 4.5/5 ⭐️
