Dee Why Public School Celebrates National Simultaneous Storytime 2026
On Wednesday, 27 May, students at Dee Why Public School took part in National Simultaneous Storytime 2026, a yearly event where schools across Australia read the same book at the same time.
This year’s story, Luna Roo, was read in the school library. The book’s message about trying new things and never giving up is very important to Dee Why’s school community. Our school values sport and encourages students to have a “growth mindset” - always doing their best, learning from mistakes, and perseverance.
Students took part in a drawing activity inspired by the story. The event was a great way to support literacy, creativity, and positive values that are at the heart of our school.

As part of Wellbeing Week, students in 6C enjoyed putting their creativity to the test by sketching some of the teachers around the school. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, laughter and attention to detail throughout the activity.

See if you can guess who is who! I may have had to remind a few students along the way that they didn’t need to draw every… single… line… 😄

Yesterday, we had 46 students proudly represent Dee Why Public School at the Zone Cross Country Carnival. All students did a fantastic job running the challenging 2km and 3km events against tough competition.

There were some outstanding results on the day, with Indy placing 3rd and Nixon B placing 5th, both qualifying for the Regional Championships. Nixon D also achieved an excellent result, finishing 7th and earning first reserve for Regionals.

We are incredibly proud of all the students for their effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.
