Changing up the scarecrows for Christmas 🤶 At Pickering Homestead we use scarecrows, disco balls, fox lights, solar security lights and electric fences to keep them pesky foxes away from our gorgeous chickens 🐓 🛑 🦊

How’s your garlic growing? Ours is absolutely pumping at Pickering Homestead. After a dismal crop last year due to it being so dry we are so happy this year to looks like having a bumper crop. We have recycled three old water tanks into a total of six garlic garden beds and all are packed with growing elephant garlic. Hopefully we will be harvesting around late Nov Dec 🧄

We think Pickering Homestead heritage hens farm fresh eggs are more delicious and nutritious than store bought….we may be a bit biased!!
We believe not only do they tend to have less saturated fat and cholesterol, but they are higher in omega-3 fatty acids along with vitamins A, D, E, and beta-carotene as a result of a truly free range Denman diet!
You will have noticed a serious lack of eggs at the grocery stores lately… due to an Avian flu crisis.
At Pickering Homestead we keep a closed flock for bio security purposes.
Here are our gorgeous heritage point of lay pullets selected to keep from last year’s incubation at Pickering homestead.
These 80 young ladies in the photos have already started to lay and along with our original flock will keep you in eggs, sustainable, ethical and delicious Denman eggs.

Wow, Pickering Homestead Sourdough for everyone this Thursday morning (a day early in case you are off travelling on school holidays).
Run don’t walk to to stock up and fill your freezer as there will be no more bakes for the next three weeks!
I have done a double bake for you, so there will be plenty of White, Seeded , Olive and the new improved Fruit Loaf with a lot more, and larger fruit in it! Just what you asked for and it is delicious 🤤 see you in August 🥖 🥰 XD

We love our sourdough 🥖 it is fermented sourdough yumminess 😋
While coeliacs can’t eat our sourdough, most gluten intolerant people can tolerate our bread.
The secret is:
We use the best quality flour available in Australia from Wholegrain Milling at Gunnedah, a sustainable business that not only cares about all things flour but the environment and sustainable farming 🌾
Our 72 hour (at least) sourdough fermentation process means that the gluten does all the work while it proves - so it shouldn’t give you that awful sick bloated feeling in your tummy 💫
We also use minimal ingredients (not flavours or extras to give it the sourdough flavour in commercial loaves) just flour, a little bit of salt & water. Always check the ingredients if you buy a commercial loaf, you will find many ingredients that just dont need to be there! Enjoy 😉 🍞 💕 XD
