🚨 Smoke Alarm Action Day 🚨

When was the last time you tested your smoke alarm?

Today, take 3 seconds to press the test button and make sure it’s working.

🔥 A small fire can become life-threatening in minutes.
🔔 A working smoke alarm provides the early warning you need to escape safely.
❤️ It could save the life of someone you love.

Today’s challenge: Test your smoke alarms and remind a friend or family member to do the same.

🏠 Test it.
🔔 Hear it.
❤️ Trust it.

Fire Commissioners across the country are sharing one united message that Australians can’t ignore: protect your family before it’s too late!!

🥶🔥 Cold weather = increased fire risk.

Simple steps that save lives:

🏠 Turn heaters off when not needed, keep items clear & service regularly
🚫 Never bring outdoor heaters inside
🚨 Install working smoke alarms - too many homes still don’t have them
🚪 Shut doors behind you when evacuating
🔋 Know the risks of lithium-ion batteries
👨‍👩‍👧 Have a home fire escape plan

If you have smoke or fire in your home - call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Today is Wear Orange Wednesday, a day to celebrate and thank our wonderful Victoria State Emergency Service colleagues for all they do.

SES plays a critical role in emergency response, often responding alongside our CFA crews to protect Victorians.

Thank you SES! 🧡⛑️⛈️ SES Cranbourne Unit

🚨 Are you sick of hearing the sound of a nagging smoke alarm?

Swap your old alarm for a 10 year long life smoke alarm and enjoy peace of mind. 🔋

🔥 Most fatal house fires happen between 8pm–8am when we’re asleep as we lose our sense of smell
🔥 Smoke alarms are your electronic nose while you sleep
🔥 A fire is able to spread through a room in 2-3 minutes
🔥 Early warnings can save lives!

Check your alarms today and make sure your family is protected🫶

🚗💥 Every crash is more than just a statistic, it’s someone’s family, friend, workmate or neighbour.

Here at Devon Meadows Fire Brigade, our volunteers attend multiple motor vehicle accidents every month. From minor collisions to serious incidents, we witness the devastating impact road trauma can have on people and families in our community.

Every year, approximately 1,200 people lose their lives and more than 40,000 are seriously injured on Australian roads. Traffic incidents remain the leading cause of death for Australian children under 15 and the second leading cause of death for Australians aged 15–24. These are confronting statistics and they continue to rise.

This national road safety week we are supporting the simple pledge: Drive as if your loved ones are on the road ahead.

✅ Put the phone away and remove distractions
✅ Never speed, drive tired, or drive under the influence
✅ Slow down and give vulnerable road users space
✅ Help protect emergency workers and everyone sharing our roads

Many crashes are preventable. A small decision behind the wheel can change a life forever.

Drive so others survive ❤️🚒

A massive THANK YOU to Saige and all the amazing kids at Eden Academy Junction Village for this incredible painting made especially for the Devon Meadows crew 🚒❤️

How clever is this! The handprints as flames and the handprints as water from the fire hose is such a creative idea 👏🔥💦

As a fully volunteer fire brigade, thoughtful gestures like this genuinely mean so much to our members and put huge smiles on our faces, it was the backdrop to our training last night!

Thank you for taking the time to support and think of our crew, we absolutely love it! ❤️🚒

🌸 Happy Mother’s Day 🌸

Today, we celebrate all the incredible mums in our brigade, throughout our community, and the amazing mothers who support what we do every single day ❤️🚒

To the mums who answer calls, support their families while volunteers respond to emergencies, help behind the scenes, raise future firefighters, and always put others first thank you.

Your strength, care, patience and support help keep our brigade and community strong.

From all of us at Devon Meadows Fire Brigade, we wish you a safe, happy and well deserved Mother’s Day 🌷

🔥 Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Reminder 🔥

CFA and FRV are reminding Victorians to stay alert to the fire risks posed by lithium-ion batteries following a recent house fire in Upwey 🪫🏠

Firefighters respondto around one lithium-ion battery fire every day across Victoria.

⚠️ Stay Safe:

- Use certified chargers only
- Buy from reputable suppliers
- Charge devices in safe areas with working smoke alarms
- Stop using batteries if they overheat, swell, leak or make unusual sounds

❌ If a battery catches fire, do not attempt to extinguish it yourself.☎️ Call Triple Zero (000) immediately and leave the area.

Lithium-ion batteries can release toxic gases and reignite multiple times.
