The Australian Government is introducing a new emergency warning system later this year called AusAlert.

AusAlert uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during local and national disasters.

These messages aim to keep communities informed so they can take action, saving lives and property.

In the lead up to AusAlert being used, there will be some testing of the system during June and July.

A regional test is happening in the Launceston area on 15 June, followed by a national test on 27 July.

For more information and resources, visit www.ausalert.gov.au.

The Living Knowledge Project: Bridging Cultures through Storytelling

Devonport Library partnered with the local Aboriginal community to present the Living Knowledge Project. The project was a year-long residency program for Tasmanian Aboriginal individuals to share personal journeys through storytelling and integrating oral traditions into libraries.

The quotes we share are from the conversations with residents sharing their personal journeys through the ancient art of yarning and storytelling.

The Living Knowledge Project invites all community members to listen, learn, and engage with the rich mosaic of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and its people. Together, let us honour the past, celebrate the present, and forge a brighter future built on understanding and respect.

"I hope that my future generations are proud and still have that connection to country, a connection the same as me" Brendan Lowery, Palawa Man

We had a fantastic time celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime this week at Devonport Library!

A big thank you to our guest speaker Mayor Alison Jarman for joining us to read Luna Roo - she did an amazing job bringing the story to life with energy and enthusiasm, with our very own cheer squad joining in with pom poms!

We kept the fun going by singing along to some great songs inspired by the Australian animals featured in the book 🦘🦜🐍
