Thanks to BridgePro Engineering Pty Ltd for letting us utilise there facilities to practice some heavy lifts, fantastic to practice in real life scenarios!

Wednesday night, the TAS SES - Mersey Unit conducted rescue training exercises at our facility.

The crews undertook two rescue scenarios using air bags to lift a slab and free a trapped casualty, and high-lift jacks to rescue a casualty positioned beneath the old boom section of the 50T SANY.

Following the first exercise, the two crews swapped scenarios, with each team applying different rescue methods and approaches to successfully complete the exercises.

A great night of practical training, teamwork and problem solving.

BridgePro Engineering is proud to support the important work our emergency services undertake within the community.

Well the weather has finally cleared — what a couple of wet days that was! 🌧️

Our crews were out in the early hours this morning helping with a few call-outs, but now things have settled down a bit.

With winter just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to get on top of your yearly home maintenance — especially your gutters. Blocked gutters make up a huge number of our emergency jobs, and most of them could be avoided with a simple clean-out.

A little prevention now can save a big headache later 👍

What an eventful day in Devonport Yesterday
We were called to a structure collapse where the front awning of a building had failed. Thankfully, Tas Fire were already on scene and had made the area safe before we arrived. From there along side some local builders, we worked together to provide assistance, lifting the awning back into position using acrow props.
It’s never an easy job, down the Main Street when all eyes are on you, but the team stayed focused and got it done safely.
Great team effort by everybody

Great training session this week—something we don’t get to do often enough: working alongside our neighbours at Latrobe Fire Brigade.

We were lucky to get some hands-on experience with fire extinguishers. It’s one of those skills you hopefully never have to use, but it’s always better to be prepared. While we’re not firefighters, you never know what situations we might face on the job.

We also had a vehicle on hand to run through some quick extrication skills—breaking windows, cutting seatbelts, and getting patients out safely. To top it off, the car was set alight and members had a go at extinguishing the fire. Definitely a moment where teamwork made all the difference!

A really enjoyable and valuable night for everyone involved. Big thanks to the team at. Latrobe Fire Brigade for their support and expertise!

Many people would recognise Anthony for his dedication and contributions over the years. Here at Mersey, we’re incredibly proud of the role he has played in shaping the SES as a whole—and even prouder to call him one of our own.

As we celebrate 50 years of the SES, we are honouring the people who have shaped our story.

Anthony Dick from our Mersey Unit said that joining the SES was one of the best decisions he has ever made.

“It gave me opportunities I wouldn’t otherwise have had, helped shape who I am today, took me to places I would not have gone, and introduced me to many wonderful people.

“It has remained a central part of my life ever since.”

For five decades, volunteers like Anthony have shown what service, commitment and community truly mean.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the SES journey.

Training last night was an awesome outdoor activity. The scenario involved a missing person in the vicinity of Don Heads, with crews deployed and moving into search mode.

Upon locating the missing person, teams provided first aid before safely carrying them out via stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

It’s real-life training like this that’s invaluable—keeping our skills sharp, our teamwork strong, and ensuring we’re always ready to respond when it matters most. 💪🚑
