Today marks a proud milestone for our brigade.

Congratulations to our youngest member Eliza Shotton who today attended her very first call out, pictured here with her Dad Steve Shotton, after returning to station this morning. 👏🚒

Eliza joined Diamond Beach RFS in 2025 at just 15 years of age and has worked hard alongside our crew to achieve her Bush Firefighter (BF) certification.

Now aged 16, Eliza is officially able to respond to incidents and assist on the fireground as an active firefighter under supervision. Her next goal is to continue building her skills and learn from the experienced crew around her.

It’s always fantastic to see young members stepping up, learning new skills and becoming part of the future of the brigade and the NSW RFS family.

Well done Eliza, and welcome to active service! 🔥🚒💛

Diamond Beach crews were paged at 1233 on Mothers Day to assist at Buladelah. Many of us were in the middle of Mothers Day lunch and others were preparing an afternoon off with BBQ and footy. Thankfully we were able to catch an available crew to drive our Heavy Tanker down the highway and they completed their shift on the fireground well after midnight.

Today we celebrate all the incredible mums, grandmothers, stepmums and mother figures in our community. 💐

From everyone at Diamond Beach RFS, thank you for the care, strength and support you give to your families and our community every single day.

A special thank you also goes to the mums within our brigade and the families behind our volunteers — the quiet support at home that makes volunteering possible never goes unnoticed.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe, relaxing and happy Mother’s Day with the people who matter most. ❤️🚒

Did you know it is illegal to light campfires on many of our local beaches — even outside the Fire Danger Period and outside a Total Fire Ban?

Despite the cooler weather, there is still plenty of dry fuel in coastal dunes and vegetation that can ignite and spread rapidly under the right conditions.

This evening our crews were paged to attend a fire at Back Beach where campers had lit a campfire in a creek bed adjacent to driftwood and coastal vegetation. Due to the risk of sparks and embers igniting dune grass and coastal heath, crews unfortunately had to extinguish the fire.

Shortly afterwards, crews were called to Diamond Beach for another campfire on the beach.

In both cases, a change in wind conditions had the potential to cause fire spread impacting nearby homes, businesses and property.

Please remember:
🔥 Campfires on beaches are not permitted in many areas
🔥 Coastal vegetation ignites easily
🔥 Wind can rapidly spread embers through dunes and bushland

We ask everyone to help keep our community safe by avoiding beach fires and following local fire restrictions.

If you see an unattended or unsafe fire, report it immediately by calling Triple Zero (000).

One of our volunteer firefighters, Melissa, this week completed an intensive week of theory training to prepare for the next few months of hands on learning to gain Crew Leader certification. Congratulations Mel, and big thanks to our catering brigade based in Tuncurry for keeping all the crew fed so well all week!

Crew Leader Theory Training Completed This Week
This week, six RFS members successfully completed their Crew Leader Theory training — a big milestone in their development as future leaders on the fireground.

Throughout the course, our wonderful catering crew kept everyone fuelled with great food and plenty of smiles. In appreciation for their hard work and support, the trainees surprised the catering team with a beautiful bouquet of flowers during morning tea.

It was a thoughtful gesture and a great reminder of the teamwork and community spirit that keeps our brigades strong.

Our catering brigade doesn’t fight fires — we fuel the firefighters who protect our community. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or simply curious about how you can contribute, we’d love to hear from you and welcome you into the Brigade.

Today we celebrate St Florian’s Day — a day that holds special meaning for firefighters around the world. St Florian is recognised as the patron saint of firefighters, known for his bravery and dedication to protecting others from fire and disaster.

This day is an opportunity to honour the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of all firefighters — past and present — who put themselves on the line to keep their communities safe. It’s also a time to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

To our brigade members and their families, thank you for your ongoing dedication, resilience, and service. Your efforts do not go unnoticed.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and take a moment today to reflect on the proud tradition we are part of.

Happy St Florian’s Day 🚒

Planning a burn on your property? 🚨🔥

You are required to notify NSW RFS and your neighbours 24hrs before you light up. Recent days and weeks have seen multiple burns escape, putting properties and lives at risk right across the mid coast.

Do the right thing — notify before you burn:

Don’t be the fire risk in your community.

Our crew turned out this morning to attend Dawn Service at Black Head. It was comforting to see so many people join us from our wonderful community.

Please have a safe ANZAC Day from all of us at Diamond Beach RFS.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget”

Not just fires… our Group Captain today saved a sugar glider after seeing it fall into the river, swimming out to catch it and release it back into a tree. Well done Birch!
