There is a fire burning south of Hallidays Point close to Tuncurry at the moment.

Please be aware that the fire is being monitored and due to difficult access it will be allowed to burn overnight as conditions ease and until machinery is available tomorrow.

Teams from NSW RFS Diamond Beach and Tuncurry Rural Fire Brigade are going out tomorrow (Friday 14th) to work on the fire.

With SW winds there is possibly going to be some smoke overnight and with potential hazard reduction burning tomorrow. For those with allergies, asthma or other respiratory illnesses please be mindful and keep windows closed if this occurs.

Residents in the Forster/Tuncurry area may see smoke in the vicinity of the Tuncurry Senior Campus.
Residents are to be aware that units are on scene and to drive with caution around emergency service vehicles

Today a bushfire started in Tuncurry south of the golf club which was attended by Diamond Beach Crews along with Tuncurry Rural Fire Brigade and Taree Rural Fire Brigade.

Access to the fire was extremely difficult and crews got to work with chainsaws clearing fire trails and undergrowth to enable access by appliances and crew members on foot.

Diamond Beach set up our Category 7 Medium Tanker to pump water to the fire hundreds of metres away via an extensive network of hose lines deployed into both sides of the fire.

Water was then supplied from our Category 1 Heavy Tanker as well as Tuncurry’s tankers who were positioned at hydrants located inside Great Lakes College Tuncurry Campus.

Crews worked extremely hard in difficult conditions to contain the fire and stop it spreading. The fire is now under control, may produce smoke overnight and will be patrolled by Tuncurry brigade over the next 24hrs.

Thanks to our neighbouring brigades for a fantastic coordinated effort, always a pleasure to work alongside each other.

Like many brigades across the Mid Coast we are enjoying less fire activity. Despite this we still remain busy with other incidents such as this car accident during the week.

As well as these call-outs we’re training in preparation for a summer that is likely to be even more demanding than last season.

Things are quiet now but we know it’s only a matter of time before we kick into gear and get to work.

The good news is that volunteering with the NSW RFS doesn’t mean you have to be available all the time. You respond when you can. Some members attend only a handful of incidents each year, and every contribution makes a real difference.

And firefighting isn’t the only way you can help.

🚒 Great Lakes Catering Brigade – based in Tuncurry providing meals and refreshments to crews during extended incidents.

✈️ Mid Coast Aviation Brigade based at Taree Airport – supporting aerial firefighting operations and keeping water-bombing aircraft supplied and ready.

📻 Communications Brigade based at Taree Fire Control Centre – coordinating resources and helping keep emergency operations running smoothly.

Every role is vital. Every volunteer helps protect our communities.

If you’ve ever thought about joining the NSW RFS, now is a great time.

Search “Join RFS” and follow the online application process.

If you’d like to know more, send Diamond Beach Rural Fire Brigade a message. We’d be happy to answer your questions and help you get started.

Know someone who’d make a great volunteer? Please tag them, share this post, and help us build a stronger, more resilient community.

We hope to see you on the fireground soon.

Wishing our highly skilled aviation crews a safe deployment to France

This weekend, the will deploy its CH-47D Chinook helicopter and a Bell 412 support aircraft to fight fires in France. This will mark the Service’s first-ever European deployment.

The aircraft will be accompanied by 24 highly skilled aerial and ground crew, and transported to France in partnership with the Australian Defence Force.

The Chinook, equipped with an 11,300-litre belly tank, has the largest payload of any firefighting helicopter in Australia. Working with the Bell 412, it is also capable of conducting waterbombing missions at night. Should it be tasked to do so in France, it will be the first time night-time waterbombing has been undertaken in the country.

Commissioner Trent Curtin says the deployment is a testament to the expertise of our aviation crews.

“We're proud to share that expertise with our international partners while strengthening the relationships that are so important when disasters occur around the world."
