🎉 Big news from Diamond Beach RFS! 🎉

Today, two of our brigade members, Deputy Captain Geoff Kempe and Firefighter Kaz Jacobsen, officially became engaged after Kaz said “yes!” 💍❤️

From everyone here at Diamond Beach RFS, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Geoff and Kaz on this very special occasion. We wish you both a lifetime filled with love, laughter, happiness, and many wonderful adventures together.

Today, on Thank A First Responder Day 2026, we pause to acknowledge and thank all of the men and women who dedicate themselves to keeping our communities safe.

A special thank you goes to our own Diamond Beach RFS volunteers. Time and time again, these ordinary people do extraordinary things — leaving family dinners, getting out of bed in the middle of the night, putting aside personal commitments, and running towards danger when others are turning the other way. Your commitment, courage and selflessness does not go unnoticed, and our community is stronger because of you.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to our fellow emergency service colleagues who work alongside us every day. Thank you to Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), and Marine Rescue for your dedication, professionalism and unwavering service to our local communities.

Whether responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, storms, road crashes or supporting those in need during difficult times, first responders embody the very best of community spirit.

To every volunteer and career emergency service worker: thank you for what you do, today and every day.

This morning Diamond Beach Brigade welcomed a very important visitor to the station, retired firefighter Jean Marcoleone.

Pictured here front and centre, Jean is the sole surviving founding member of our brigade which was founded in 1979 as Diamond Beach - Red Head Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade by four local women to protect our community.

Jean along with three other local ladies setup a trailer mounted fire tender with water tank, pump and hose reel. Nearby a steel frame was constructed with a steel beam suspended by chain, which when struck made a clanging noise used to sound the alarm - a far cry from our modern computer aided dispatch system.

The risk is very real when it comes to electric charging systems. Check your devices for damage, use the correct charging system and don’t leave items charging for extended periods.

This is also a timely reminder that smoke alarms save lives! If you haven’t checked yours already now is the time.

It was a lucky escape early this morning for a family who woke to discover a fire burning in their garage.

Firefighters from the and FRNSW arrived quickly, with crews from Galston and Arcadia extinguishing the fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electric vehicle charger.

While there were no smoke alarms in the garage, a working smoke alarm in the hallway activated, allowing the family time to safely evacuate and giving firefighters a chance to extinguish the fire before it spread further into the home.

Remember it's important you have multiple smoke alarms installed throughout your home, particularly in areas where combustible materials may be present.

TRIBUTE TO A FALLEN FIREFIGHTER

Today Buladelah brigade held a memorial for National Parks & Wildlife Service Firefighter John Lohan who was tragically killed on the fireground during the Buladelah fires in 2025 and today the service in his honour was attended by members of NSW RFS and NPWS crews.

It is with gratitude and appreciation today that we would like to thank Lions Club of Hallidays Point for a very generous donation to our brigade.

Each year our two community organisations work together to support each other at events such as New Years Eve fireworks, Australia Day and ANZAC Day. Our members also assist by volunteering at the Lions Club Op Shop in Black Head.

With this very important donation we will now be able to invest in new equipment and supplies to support our firefighters as well as the day to day running of the brigade.

Today marks one year since the NSW Rural Fire Service was deployed into flood ravaged areas of the Manning River.

Once waters receded and damage assessments could begin our brigade among many others from across NSW committed to a roster over the coming weeks to help clean up the mess and restore some semblance of normality.

Diamond Beach RFS formed part of what is called a “Strike Team” working in Wingham, Taree, Glenthorne, Pampoolah, Bohnock and Oxley Island.

It was heartbreaking work that involved backbreaking manual labour, hundreds of thousands of litres of water hosing out homes and businesses along with the grit and determination to get the job done.

The community spirit shone bright, with many local people turning up wearing gumboots with shovels in hand, local footy teams giving out water to thirsty crews. Tradespeople offered to make electrical repairs and plumbing services for free. People rolled in with tractors offering to help - and it all of it was gratefully accepted.

🚨 Motor Vehicle Accident Response 🚨

At approximately 0130hrs this morning, crews from Diamond Beach RFS responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on The Lakes Way at Darawank. Our members assisted with fire suppression and emergency scene lighting while paramedics from NSW Ambulance and firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW worked to stabilise and rescue trapped occupants.

This is the second high-speed motor vehicle accident our brigade has attended this week. On Monday evening, crews also responded to the pictured incident on the Pacific Highway. Thankfully, no one was injured in that collision.

With wet weather continuing across the region, we remind all motorists to drive to the conditions and take extra care on roads affected by water, potholes, and deteriorating surfaces.

We also encourage parents and carers to have conversations with young and inexperienced drivers about safe driving in wet weather, including slowing down, increasing following distances, and avoiding unnecessary risks behind the wheel.

Thank you to all emergency services involved for their professionalism and teamwork under difficult conditions.
