Diamond Creek Fire Brigade

Diamond Creek Fire Brigade The Diamond Creek Fire Brigade is a 100% volunteer CFA brigade in Melbourne's north eastern suburbs. Diamond Creek Fire Brigade is a 100% volunteer brigade.

We are a dedicated team of around 50 members, looking after the needs of the local Diamond Creek community and surrounds 24/7 365 days of the year. We respond to approximately 150 incidents annually. These are generally in and around Diamond Creek, however we also travel around the State to assist with major fire events. We currently have about 55 volunteer firefighters and support members from al

l walks of life. Members are notified of incidents by our fire siren and by smart phone apps and pagers. Our station houses three firefighting appliances (trucks), a Slip On (ute with water and a pump) and a Big Fill pump housed in a modified Toyota Hilux. We also house the Whittlesea Diamond Valley Group car. Our pumper is designed to combat structure fires in an urban environment and carries an array of equipment which can tackle a range of incidents. Our two tankers are designed to respond to grass and bushfire in the rural environment, but can also used throughout the township. The station is also the headquarters of the Whittlesea Diamond Valley Group, a group of eight brigades from Whittlesea in the north to Diamond Creek in the south. As well as attending emergency incidents, our members are also involved in training (much of which is nationally-recognised training), community engagement, emergency pre-planning, training, inter-agency and inter-brigade activities and more. We also feature annually in the Diamond Creek Town Fair and Torchlight procession, as well as the annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb. Members train one night per week and on Sunday mornings. We also attend one brigade meeting a month. If you're interested in joining us, please private message us on Facebook or drop in to the station on a Sunday morning. Please don't call the station as we do not man the station at all times. You can also read more about volunteering with the CFA at www.cfa.vic.gov.au.

πŸš’πŸ’Ž BEDAZZELED FIRE TRUCK πŸ’ŽπŸš’

It's taken us so many hours, but to celebrate the upcoming end of fire restrictions on 7th April (0100 hours) we decided to bedazzle our main fire truck (Pumper).

We loved jumping on this current bedazzeling trend and seeing our members work so well together on this little project.

We hope you like the final result as much as we do ❀

πŸ”₯FIRE RESTRICTIONS LIFTING 7TH APRILπŸ”₯

Please don't go nuts!

Fires can end up out of control at any time of year, and precautions always need to be taken to ensure burning off and other activities involving heat/flame are safe.

Also, always remember to register your burn so we don't end up being called out.

πŸš’πŸͺ£πŸ§½SCHMICK TRUCKS πŸš’πŸͺ£πŸ§½

A big thank you to the crew from Jim's Detailing Mernda Central, who recently spent a day giving our fire appliances a really thorough clean after a busy summer season.

We are really mindful of the need to keep our trucks clean, so as not to risk our firefighters' health, so this work is especially meaningful.

Thanks team!

πŸ’―πŸ€AGENCY COLLABORATION πŸ€πŸ’―

Today we attended a house fire in our local area that required a range of emergency service organisations (and others) to assist. This event was supported by;

Plenty Fire Brigade
Fire Rescue Victoria
South Morang Fire Brigade
Eltham CFA
Mernda CFA
Ambulance Victoria
SES Nillumbik Unit

Thanks to the crew from Fire Rescue Victoria station 82 (Eltham) and 16 (Greensborough) for their firefighting assistance. Thanks to Mernda CFA and Ambulance Victoria for looking after our members' health and welfare. Thanks to Eltham CFA for managing our breathing apparatus sets. Thanks to Plenty Fire Brigade for staying on scene for an extended period to provide us with firefighting and overhaul assistance. Thanks to SES Nillumbik Unit who assisted by covering and protecting much of the homeowner's possessions. Thanks to Mooroolbark Fire Brigade - CFA for turning out to provide additional PV Stop. Thanks to Banyule City Council for their assistance with sourcing a specialist solar electrician and providing care and support to the homeowners. Thanks to AusNet and ESV for their assistance in managing the power challenges in the home.

πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ Always Trawool-ing to Help πŸ’ͺπŸ‘

Sorry, couldn't resist...

Seven of our members travelled to Trawool to assist with firefighting efforts over the weekend.

Five members travelled up in one of our tankers on Saturday and were largely tasked with asset protection, while on Sunday, two of our members travelled up in our ultralight appliance to assist with blacking out the southern fire edge.

This fire has burnt through over 400Ha, but yesterday's rain has had a great impact on the scorched ground, cooling it significantly and reducing the risk of reignitions in the Tallarook State Forest.

πŸ”₯πŸš’ EXTREME DAY COMING πŸš’πŸ”₯

There is another day of extreme fire danger forecast in the central fire district (where Nillumbik is located) on Tuesday 17th Feb.

Did you know?

The fire danger rating (FDR) is based on a number called the fire behaviour index (FBI).

FBI is quite complicated and considers a wide range of variables which impact fire behaviour, including predominant vegetation type, soil type, draught factor, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction.

The wide range of soil and vegetation types, amongst other factors, is why Victoria has nine fire weather districts.

Anyhoo, best to have your bushfire plan ready to enact for Tuesday! Stay safe everyone.
